The developers of CarbonROM are back and have just released new 7.1.1 Nougat-based custom ROMs for all Sony Xperia Z3 users. If you are tired of waiting for Sony to push the official Nougat OS for Xperia Z3 in your region and you want to try the Android 7.1.1 features, then you should check out the releases of CarbonROM based on 7.1.1 Nougat.

Before beginning the flashing process you must check the following guidelines:
- Use this tutorial only if you are an advanced user accustomed to this kind of procedures; we cannot be blamed if your device brick nor in case you lose data in the process.
- The files from this tutorial are compatible only with the Sony Xperia Z3 models, therefore do not attempt to update other devices using these files.
- The bootloader of your phone has to be unlocked, and your phone should be rooted and run the latest version of TWRP Recovery.
- Check if you have upgraded your phone to the latest version of TWRP custom Recovery for you to be able to install the new Android 7.1.1-based CarbonROM on your device.
- In this post, you will find also the preparation steps to make an NANDROID Backup and Factory Reset your Xperia Z3 device.
– The NANDROID backup process fully restores your device, that you can use in case the new custom ROM doesn’t boot in normal mode.
– Factory reset process wipes clean the system partition of your device, it eliminates the old custom ROM and it pushes the CarbonROM Android 7.1.1 ROM to boot in normal mode. Factory Resetting the device won’t delete any data from the internal or external storage of it.
- Contacts and People info should be synced with your account before starting the installation process, and if you want to save data from installed apps, use the Helium tool for Android.
- Charge your phone and make sure the battery level is more than 50% to prevent the phone from shutting down while the new CarbonROM 7.1.1 ROM boot.

How to install CarbonROM Android 7.1.1 Nougat Nightly ROM for Sony Xperia Z3:
1. Download from here, the CarbonROM 7.1.1 Nightly zip file.
2. Download from here theGapps for Android 7.1 ROMs.
3. When the both downloads are done, move both files to the phone’s internal storage, but do not unzip files.
4. Turn off the Xperia Z3 device and boot it in TWRP Recovery Mode.
5. Select the “Backup” menu to create an NANDROID backup of the installed ROM and select the files you want to save, then confirm the process.
6. Factory Reset theXperiaZ3 device by selecting the WIPE option and confirm the process.
7. Find the CarbonROM 7.1.1 zip file and load it in TWRP Recovery.
8. Start the installation of CarbonROM 7.1.1 by selecting the INSTALL menu and confirm the flashing process. Do not press any button until the update is done.
9. When the flashing process is over, you can install the Gapps zip, also. To install the Gapps use the same instructions as for the custom ROM.
10. After all the files are done installing, reboot yourXperia Z3 phone in normal mode. You should expect that the first boot process of this new ROM to take a while before it loads all new files.
11. To regain control over your device, use your usual login info.
