  • This tutorial and all instructions listed here are can be applied only for HTC Butterfly X920D model.
  • Your HTC device needs to be an unlocked bootloader. If it is not, you can follow the instructions listed on the HTC dev webpage from here to unlock its bootloader.
  • Make a back-up for all your important data like SMS, Call Logs, Sync your contact with Gmail Account, and all your data like images, videos, documents. You can use those back-up methods, you think is secure, or you can use our back-up tutorials as well.
  • The rooting procedure has two parts the first is to install the TWRP Recovery image, and the second one is the rooting procedure.

So, let’s begin with the first one:

How to install the TWRP Recovery on the HTC Butterfly X920D:

  • Download the TWRP Recovery Installer from here and save it in your Windows PC. (Windows only)
  •  Now extract the downloaded archive content on your Desktop PC.
  • From the extracted files, find the ‘Start Here’ file and run it by double-clicking on it to launch command prompt.
  • Enter the next command to get you HTC device into bootloader mode: adb reboot bootloader
  • After your smartphone is in fastboot mode, enter the next command: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
  • After the recovery image is installed, enter the next command to reboot your device: fastboot reboot

Now after TWRP recovery has been flashed, we can move onto flashing the root package.

How to Root the HTC Butterfly X920D -guide

  • Download the Root package file and save it in your computer, do not extract its content
  • Copy and Paste the downloaded file on to the root of your smartphones’ SD card.
  • Now reboot your device into bootloader mode and there select ‘Recovery’.
  • In the recovery menu select the ‘Install’ button and then select the above copied zip file.
  • Confirm the installation.
  • After the installation is complete, select ‘Reboot System’.
