How to

Install Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow On SPRINT Samsung Galaxy Note 5 Using ODIN

SPRINT, the American telecommunications company, has pushed the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow OTA update for their Galaxy Note 5 devices this October. If you are a Samsung Galaxy Note 5 user, you know that Android 6.0.1 Official update is being rolled over-the-air in stages, and not all users are getting these files at the same time.

If you are looking to update your device with Odin app, check the tutorial below to learn how to successfully flash the new Android update, without waiting for the OTA files to be available in your region.

First assure that the following demands are met:

Your Samsung device is a SPRINT Galaxy Note 5 SMN—920P model. To check your model, go to Settings-> About phone. If the listed model is SM – N920P, you can go on.

Download Samsung USB Drivers and install them on your PC. The USB Drivers can be dowloaded from here.

  • The ODIN app requires the USB drivers installed, and also USB Debugging to be enabled. Check your phone’s Developer options menu and see if you can see them, if not go to Settings> About Phone and by tapping seven times on the Build Number you will unhide them.
  • If your device runs 100% stock Android, you can go to the tutorial part of this post.
  • The update can be installed over rooted firmware using ODIN, but you need to know that root access will not survive the update.
  • If you have a custom recovery flashed, this will be replaced by a stock recovery image.
  • The Android Marshmallow update can be flashed with Odin over custom ROMs, too, but you will need to factory reset your device, which will wipe clean the system partition and will force your device to boot in normal mode.
  • Booting in normal mode with official firmware removes the custom ROM completely.
  • The Factory Reset process will not wipe any data from internal storage of your device.
  • This post is dedicated to advanced users, as we cannot be blamed if you brick your device.
