Update Nexus S with Jellybean 4.2 Firmware

Unofficial custom ROM has been released today for Nexus S device and you will learn how you  can flash it in the Nexus S smartphone. You need to verify if the Nexus S smartphone is rooted or not. You can do this with a Root checker application on the Google Playstore.

Pre-requisite:

  • Create a backup for all data stored in your Nexus S smartphone,
  • Don’t make a backup of your data with the ROM Manager method, this may brick your smartphone.
  • Save your SMS using the SMS Backup & Restore app. ,
  • Don’t lose your contacts you need to make a synchronization with your Gmail account.
  • Save other data stored on your Nexus S like Call Logs, to save your call logs download and use the Call Log and Restore application.
  •  To save your personal information like Images, songs files and Videos files, documents files copy to the internal/ Exernel SD Card and copy again in your PC.
  •  Save your Internet configuration, APN and MMS settings, for doing that note down from the following path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”.
  • Make sure you have enough power in your battery device, this level is not less by 50%.
  • Enable the USB Debugging from the following path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” check that the USB debugging option must be cheeked.
  • You need to have a computer and the original USB cable for the Nexus  device. Be sure you fully understand all instructions listed above.

How to update Jellybean 4.2 in Nexus S smartphone – tutorial:

  • First download the Jellybean 4.2 Firmware Pack from this address and save it in your computer.
  • Connect your Nexus S device to the PC using the original USB cord.
  • Copy and Paste the downloaded file on your Nexus S.
  • Now, disconnect your Nexus S smartphone from the PC.
  • Assuming that you have download the ROM Manager application from Googl Play Store, open this app and there select “FLASH Clock Work Mod Recovery Image” for installing the CWM image in your smartphone, after that it will download the CWM image from the wi/fi or Mobile internet connection, make sure you have an active an internet connection.  When you successfully finish, you will receive a notification, select “reboot into recovery mode”.
  • Now in the recovery mode, chose the “Wipe data/factory reset” and then  “Wipe Cache partition”. Now, chose “install zip from sd card” and select the copied pack (Jellybean 4.2 Firmware) in your smartphone. After you select the files, confirm this and wait around 3-4 minutes for flashing your smartphone. When the updating process is done, and the firmware was applied select “go back” and then select “reboot system now”.
  • Settings > About Phone” ant there you’ll see the Android version.

Attention: If your device doesn’t boot up or not show the device home screen you need to remove the Nexus S battery.  Wait a few second and reinsert the battery.  Try again to boot your device in the normal mode.
