Update Sony Xperia Z C660X to latest Official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Firmware

A new update is now available for Sony Xperia Z owners. This new update is Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware with build number 10.3.A.0.423. It comes with new notable features, new applications and some fixed bugs.

 

This update has been released by Sony via Over-the-Air (OTA) update, and is also available on Sony PC Companion or SonyBridge for MAC users. To download and install this latest update by OTA for your device, you can navigate to Settings> About phone> Software update> OK.

If the update isn’t available to install by OTA, you may need to follow this step-by-step guide manually. Flash the Official Android 4.2.2 firmware on Xperia Z device.

  • Download and install the suitable USB driver for Sony Xperia Z device, that will allow you successfully connect the Xperia Z device to the PC.
  • From the next path: Menu>> Settings>> Applications, click on Development option and after that make sure that the USB Debugging Mode option is enabled.
  • Create a full backup for all the data of the smartphone .
  • If the Xperia Z device is having any custom recovery images such as TWRP or CWM already flashed, use it to get a full backup for your actual ROM with a Nandroid backup method.
  • Verify the Xperia Z device’s battery level of charge and make sure that it has more than 75% power left.

How to flash Android 4.2.2 on Xperia Z via Sony Companion (Windows PCs)/Bridge (MAC PCs)

  1. Download  Sony Companion for Windows tool or Sony Bridge for Mac  tool and install the same on the PC
  2. Now, connect the Sony  Xperia Z to the PC via  USB cable.
  3. Next, from the PC, open the Sony Companion for Windows or SonyBridge for MAC.
  4. The Sony Companion or SonyBridge will detect the Smartphone, you need to wait for a couple of minutes.
  5. Now, check on the Sony Companion or SonyBridge to see if the new Firmware Upgrade is there and whether  it’s available for installing.
  6. From the Sony Companion or Sony Bridge interface, press the Firmware Upgrade button to start the update process.
  7. Now, agree all terms and conditions about the recent update by checking the box
  8. Press Start Upgrade, to start the installation process.
  9. Now, wait download and install to run and finish.
  10. When the new update is successfully installed, the device will reboot automatically.
  11. The new Android 4.2.2 firmware update should be successfully installed
  12. To be sure, the new update is running on the Sony Xperia Z device, verify the new software version from Settings>> About Phone>> Android & Baseband version
  13. Also, when the new update is completely installed , you’ll see on the Sony Companion or Sony Bridge your smartphone is up to date

 How To Install The Latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean On Xperia Z Device Using  Sony Flash Tool

  1. Download the appropriate official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware  according to the Xperia Z model number file.
  2. For Xperia Z C6603 Unbranded-Netherlands;Xperia Z C6603 Unbranded-Spain; Xperia Z C6602 unbranded-Taiwan and save it in your PC.
  3. Download Sony Flashtool app to the PC. [Flashtool-0.9.11.0-windows.exe]
  4. Now, install the Sony Flashtool app( double click on the flashtool.exe file , after the installation is done, you should see a flashtool folder in your PC’s  C Drive partition.
  5. Open the flashtool application with a double click on flashtool icon from your desktop to launch the flashtool app.
  6. For installing the Flashtool-drivers  open  C: / Flashtool / drivers folder, select and check the box of the device model and Flashmode Drivers
  7. Now, connect the Xperia Z device  to the PC using its USB cable.
  8. Move (copy/paste) the downloaded .ftf file which represents the official firmware file  to the C: / flashtool / firmwares folder in the PC.
  9. Now, from the flashtool app, click the lightning icon and from the new window select and  click flashmode,  click  OK.
  10.  If users wish to wipe the Xperia Z device before flashing, select the opened window  with check the  Data, Cache, Appslog boxes  located at the right sidebar
  11. If the users don’t want to wipe the device, uncheck all the boxes.
  12. Now from the source folder, browse, select and load the .ftf in the flashtool / firmwares. .ftf
  13. Next, press flash button from the flashtool to begin the installation.
  14. Now, all you need to do is to follow the prompt instructions.
  15. Disconnect  the Xperia Z smartphone from the PC
  16. Then, turn off  the Xperia Z device.
  17. Boot it into Flash Mode (press and keep holding Volume Down button while connect the Xperia smartphone to PC via USB cord)

Note: The display of the Xperia Z device will remain blank.

  1. Now, look on the Flashtool window in the PC.  The Flashtool  should install the .ftf file.
  2. Make sure that you wait until the flashing  process is done. This is indicated by a text message which will say Flashing finished  on the the flashtool window.
  3. Now, power on the Sony Xperia Z device.

Congratulation the new official Android 4.2.2 update firmware is completely installed on the Xperia Z device.

To verify the new firmware version which is running on the Xperia Z smartphone, navigate to Settings>> About phone>> Android & Baseband version.
