Backup all your personal data, store applications and settings from the device’s internal memory, also if you have an CWM or TWRP recovery tool installed perform a full backup for your actual ROM using NANDROID backup.

How to Manually Update Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (LTE) N8020 to Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXBMF1 Official Firmware

  1. Download the official Firmware (N8020XXBMF1) and save it in your PC.
  2. Download ODIN v3.07 on your PC.
  3. Now extract the downloaded firmware zip file to the desktop PC and make sure you have obtained a .tar.md5 file.
  4. Extract the ODIN zip file and make sure you get the Odin3 v3.07.exe together with some few other files.
  5. Turn off the Galaxy Note 10.1 totally, wait around of 5 seconds to make sure that the device is complete turned off.
  6. Boot the Note 10.1 device into Download Mode. (Press and holding Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneous until the Samsung logo is displayed and then press Volume Up button to enter into Download Mode).
  7. Open the ODIN app by launching the Odin3 v3.07.exe. (Do this thing as an Administrator).
  8. Now, connect the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet to PC using the USB cable while the tablet is still entered in Download Mode.
  9.  Next, in ODIN a message will appear saying “Added!” and the ID: COM box will be colored yellow or blue, that’s means the device connects successfully.
  10.  If in ODIN the message fails to be showed, you need to reinstall the USB drivers for the tablet and change the USB port on PC.
  11. Now, form ODIN select the PDA checkbox and click the ‘.tar.md5’ file extracted above.
  12. Important: In ODIN app by selecting the checkbox enable the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options, and Re-Partition checkbox must be unselected.
  13. Verify again the above steps are done correctly, to prevent ROM related issues and errors.
  14. Now, from ODIN app click START button to start the installation firmware.
  15. Wait for ODIN flash the device and when the flashing process is done, the Note 10.1 device will reboot automatically.
  16. Once the new firmware is complete a Pass message with a green background will be displayed in ODIN (In the left-most box at very top of Odin app’s interface).
  17.  Once the Home screen is loaded up, you can safe to disconnect the USB cable from PC.

To verify the firmware version you can go to Settings > About Tablet.

Troubleshooting:

  • If the device is stuck at booting or it is entering into a boot loop issue, you have to perform a wipe task by selecting Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache a few more times. After the wipe task reboot the device.
  • In case a Status 7 error message flashes while flashing the new firmware, it could be an incompatible Android device or the device doesn’t have a Jelly Bean Kernel installed on it.
