Are you  Galaxy Nexus 7 Wi-Fi 2013 device users and you want to run the latest Cyanogen Mod custom ROM’s on their device. The new CM 11 Nightly build is now available for Samsung Galaxy Nexus 7 Wi-Fi 2013 devices.

This guide will show you how to install the new CM 11 Nightly ROM in the Galaxy Nexus 7 Wi-Fi 2013 device.

The new official CM 11 Nightly custom ROM is based on the new Android 4.4 KitKat OS and will be soon updated to the latest Android 4.4.2. It comes with latest official KitKat features and application and custom and other CM applications. Pre-requisites:

  • Do not use the same for any other Android tablets or devices.
  • The Nexus 7 Wi-Fi 2013 device has to be rooted and to it needs to have the latest CWM or TWRP Recovery image installed.
  • The TWRP recovery image isn’t tested by, in case you have installed, make sure that it is of the latest version.  We are giving you information about the  custom Recovery versions in the next sections.
  • During the step-by-step guide a “factory reset” is necessary and r for this new custom ROM need to be flashed correctly.
  • If the Nexus device has a previous CM 11 Nightly official release, you can skip the factory reset step.
  • The factory reset operation wipes all data from the device’s system, but the data from internal storage will not be affected by this operation.
  • Create a full NANDROID ROM Backup for the actual ROM that is actually installed on the NEXUS device. This backup will allow you to repair the Nexus device in case the new CM 11 custom ROM doesn’t boot into normal mode. So do not skip the Nandroid backup step.
  • Backup data from installed apps on the Nexus device,  you can do so by using Helium application from Google Play Store by visiting this link from here.
  • From the Developer Options menu, enable the USB debugging mode.
  • Ensure that the device’s battery power level is more than 70 %. Don’t skip any step.

How to install the latest CM 11 Nightly ROM for Nexus 7 Wi-Fi 2013 edition:

  1. Firstl, download the new CM 11 Nightly custom ROM zip from here. Ensure that grab the latest build custom ROM available and not an older one.
  2. Second, download Gapps Android 4.4 KitKat zip from here.
  3. Next, by using the USB cable connect the device to the PC.
  4. Move both zip files to the device’s internal storage. Once the files are copied completely, disconnect the Nexus device from your PC.
  5. Do not extract the files.
  6. Turn off the Nexus device.
  7. Boot the Nexus 7 device into CWM/TWRP Recovery image. Note: ensure that the custom Recovery image should be updated to the latest version.
  8. Now, from the Recovery image menu, create a full NANDROID ROM Backup. To do this for CWM
  9. First, create a full NANDROID ROM Backup: ‘backup and restore’. For CWM select the ‘backup and restore’ and give a name for the file and save it to the internal storage.
  10. For TWRP recovery image, press Backup and swipe to confirm the backup process.
  11. Make sure that you don’t skip the Nandroid step.
  12. Now, apply the ‘factory reset’ operation.
  13. For CWM recovery, select the ‘wipe data/ factory reset’ and then confirm.
  14. For TWRP, select the Wipe and then swipe to confirm that you want to do the factory reset process.
  15. Now, install the new CM 11 custom ROM.
  16. To do this for CWM recovery select ‘install zip from sdcard’ and then ‘choose zip from sdcard’, browse and find the copied CM 11 Nightly ROM zip file and then Confirm.
  17. For the TWRP recovery image press on Install, and browse the device’s internal storage for the copied CM 11 Nightly zip file, then swipe to confirm the installation.
  18. Now, please don’t touch any button before the process is done.
  19. Next, install the Gapps zip file that, after the new CM 11 custom, ROM file is installed.
  20. To do this for CWM, you need to select the ‘choose zip from sdcard’, find the copied Gapps file and confirm the installation.
  21. For the devices with TWRP recovery, press Install, browse the sdcard, and find Gapps zip file and confirm the installation process.
  22. Now, after the both files are flashed, return to the main custom Recovery menu. For CWM select ‘reboot system now’ and for TWRP press Reboot, the System.
  23. Now, just wait the rebooting process to be completed and do not press any buttons.
  24. Finally, you need to enter your CyanogenMod / Google account details and to test the new custom ROM on the Google Nexus 7 2013 device.

That’s all; you successfully learned how to manually install the latest CM 11 Nightly build Android 4.4 KitKat custom ROM on the Google Nexus 7 2013.

Troubleshooting:

If device enters into a boot loop you need to repeat the entire tutorial once again.

Don’t skip to do ‘wipe data/ factory reset’ step then perform the format /system’ as well and after ‘factory reset’.

Now, you can try to install the custom ROM without Gapps pack and then reboot the device in the Recovery mode and install the Gapps.

If you re-flashed the CM 11 ROM, but the Gapps is not installed and the device boots normally, after that youinstalled the Gapps and the device doesn’t boot, then you’ll need to install another version of Gapps file, you can find more info here.

If you don’t like the new CM 11 Nightly custom ROM or the Nexus 7 2013 device doesn’t work properly, you should use the NANDROID backup file to restore your previously ROM.
