Android 4.1.2 motorola droid bionic

Quite recently the Motorola Droid Bionic received the OTA Android Jelly Bean update from Verizon. We have just prepared a step-by-step manual guide to help you learn how to apply this latest firmware on your Motorola Droid Bionic.

If you didn’t receive this update by OTA, don’t worry about that. This update can be applied for the rooted Droid Bionic devices, but you need to know that after you update your device with an official stock update firmware the root rights will be revoked, and you’ll not be able to install a custom ROM into your device without rooting again your device.

The Android Jelly Bean 4.1.2 firmware comes with a lot of features and will improve the performances for your Motorola Droid Bionic update. You’ll be able to use the latest features as Google Now, Project Butter, a smart notification pack, expandable or actionable, dynamic widgets arrangement and ability to resize them, and other significant improvements available with this latest firmware.

Pre-requisites and Guidelines:

As I said earlier, the manual installation is being required for all Motorola Droid Bionic owners that didn’t receive it by OTA this firmware and they want to install it in their devices or for devices with the root rights existing in them.

This update is an official update by stock provided by Verizon.

When you’ll apply this firmware your warranty will not be void, or it will be restored if the firmware is applied in one rooted device.

When you want to install manually a firmware you need to know that it is a risky process and you need to have knowledge about what you are doing with your device. So we strongly recommend this kind of actions to be performed by the Android advanced users only. If you don’t follow all the steps in the correct order, you risk ending up this process in damaging your Motorola Droid device.

  •  Back-up all your critical data to make it sure if something goes wrong you have your data with you. So you can save your SMS, contact list, personal data, market app, videos, photos, documents and all data that are stored in your device’ internal memory.
  • Perform a Nandroid back-up, if your device is rooted and has been installed on it a custom recovery image. The Nandroid back-up will back up your actual OS ROM that is currently running in your device before you apply the new firmware.
  • This guide can be applied only for Motorola Droid Bionic devices that are on stock Android 4.0 OS with the 6.7.246.version.  The ROM need to be 100 stock and unmodified.
  • To check the firmware version number that is running in your device, you can find that on the following path: “Settings -> about phone”.
  • Your device’ battery must be more than 70% to perform this task otherwise it may face a forced shut down.
  • Enable the USB Debugging option from your Android OS menu on your smartphone.
  • Be sure you have a windows based computer available.
  • Uninstall and disable the security programs that are running in devices, PC and smartphone. These programs can interfere and interrupt the update process.
  • As I told you earlier, this guide can be applied for the rooted Motorola Droid Bionic devices that are running the stock Android 4.0 firmware.
  • If you want to keep the root rights on your device, you can apply the following lines:
  • Download and install on your Motorola device from the Google Play Store the OTA RootKeeper app from here.
  • After you have installed the OTA RootKeeper on your smartphone, open it.
  • Now press on “Protect Root” option, that thing will back-up the root status for your smartphone.
  • In order to remove the root rights before applying the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean operating system press on “Temp Unroot” option.
  •  Now, you need to know that this article and all the steps listed here are compatible only with the Motorola Droid Bionic model number XT875. So apply this guide only for this model. Don’t try to apply the same for any other similar devices otherwise your device may be damaged.
  • This tutorial is provided only for educational and instructional purpose, and we can’t be held responsible or liable if something doesn’t work well and you lose any data or damage your device.
