Android Device Manager app is upgraded by Google to version 1.3.8 with new features, being designed to assist the recovery of stolen devices.
To protect the personal data stored in the device’s memory, now, misplaced or stolen Android devices can be remotely locked.
In addition, the stolen and blocked device can dial a pre-configured phone number for direct communication between the legal owner and the person who came into possession of lost or stolen device.
Moreover, if direct communication attempts give no result, the rightful owner can send SMS messages to be displayed directly in the lock screen menu.
Also, from the Android Device Manager panel accessible from the web interface of the Google user account we can locate a lost phone on the map, and the GPS coordinates provided can be further communicated to the authorities.
Finally, if all attempts for the recovery of the device fail we can request remote wipe of personal data stored in memory. The operation may be completed including when the phone is off, and deletion will be triggered the next time when the device is on.
You can download and install the latest version of Android Device Manager using the APK file from here or wait for it to arrive via Google Play Store.
