If you want to improve your Google Nexus S performances then you need to know about a new upgrade which is available to be flashed on your device. Your Nexus S can now be flashed with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean ROM. To read this article, you will learn how to install this new custom ROM for your Galaxy Nexus S device.
Pre-requisites and Guidelines:
- Your smartphone need to be rooted and to have installed and running a custom recovery image like CWM or TWRP on it.
- Use this tutorial and all instructions listed here only for Google Nexus S device. Don’t try to flash this custom ROM on any other device, otherwise it can get damaged.
- During the tutorial, you’ll wipe data, and you’ll make a factory reset, in case you are already running a Cyanogen Mod 10.1. In this case, this step isn’t necessary, and you can skip the factory reset for your smartphone.
- Create a full back-up for the actual ROM that you have installed on your device. To make this back-up, we recommend doing a full NANDROID back-up. This back-up will be a restore point, in case your device doesn’t boot after you installed the new custom ROM.
- Back-up all your personal data stored in your internal device’ memory like SMS, Call Logs, Internet settings, sync your contacts with your Gmail account, images files, videos files, documents and so on. In our tutorial you can find applications that can help you back-up your data, for SMS you can use SMS back-up and restore app, for saving call logs you can use the Call Logs back-up and restore app, and for your personal data you can save them in the cloud.
- Verify your device’ battery and make sure you have enough power left in it so that the device doesn’t face a sudden shutdown during the flashing process.

How to install CM 10.1 M2 Jelly Bean 4.2.2 for the Google Nexus S:
- Firstly, download the CyanogenMod 10.1 M2 Jelly Bean 4.2.2 from HERE and save it in your computer.
- Secondly, download the Gapps for Android 4.2.2 from HERE. Don’t try to install other versions.
- Now, Connect your Nexus S device to the computer, using an USB cable
- Move the downloaded files to the smartphone’s internal SD card. Let the files unzipped.
- Now, after the files are copied totally, disconnect the smartphone from the PC
- Power off your Nexus S device.
- Reboot your smartphone into CWM Recovery mode. To do that press and keep holding Volume Down and Power buttons simultaneously.
- From the CWM Recovery mode, create a NANDROID back-up of your actual ROM. To do that, use the ‘back-up and restore’ option. This back-up will be a restore point if something doesn’t work well with this new custom installation.
- Now from the CWM recovery mode select ‘wipe data/ factory reset’ option and confirm this action. Note: If you have already installed a custom ROM based CM 10.1 Nightly that running in your smartphone, you can skip this wipe data step.
- Now from CWM recovery mode menu, select ‘install zip from SD card’ and after that select ‘choose zip from SD card’, search the CM 10.1 M2 JB custom ROM file, that you copied previously and flash it.
- From the same menu, select ‘choose zip from SD card’ once more and install the Gapps zip. File, confirm its installation.
- Now, return to the main menu of the CWM Recovery Mode and from there select ‘reboot system now’. This thing will reboot your device.
- After your device completes the first reboot with the new custom ROM, join your Google Account.
Note: If the first reboot takes more time or doesn’t complete, or your Nexus S smartphone enters a boot loop, you have to power off the device, and after that, you need to repeat all the instructions again from the first step onwards. You will have to power off the device completely.
