Pre-requisites and Guidelines:

  • Use this custom Vanilla RootBox ROM and all the instructions listed here only for the   Galaxy Note 2 N7100 model. If you try to use it for other models, you can either lose your data or break your device. To verify the device model, you need to navigate to Settings > About Phone, and note down your device’ model.
  • You need a windows PC, the USB cord and one Galaxy Note 2 device with you to complete this operation.
  • Install the proper USB drivers for the Galaxy Note 2 in your PC.
  • Back-up your important data that you have stored in the device’ internal memory, like SMSContacts, Internet Settings, images, video files, Call Logs, and other data that you consider is important for you. Use either CWM or TWRP recovery apps to take a full back-up of the actual ROM that is running in your device.
  • Your device’ battery should be fully charged so that it doesn’t get shutdown during the rooting process.
  • Enable the USB Debugging option on your smartphone. To do that go to the Settings > Developer Options or Settings > Applications > Development and make sure to tick the USB Debugging option.
  • To install this custom ROM, you need your device to be factory unlocked and rooted smartphone, with custom recovery image installed on it, like CWM recovery.
  • Do a Dalvik Cache Wipe  from the Recovery Mode:

How to install Android 4.2.2 Vanilla RootBox Jelly Bean ROM on Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 –

  1. Download Android 4.2.2 Vanilla RootBox Jelly Bean ROM from here and save it in your PC. Don’t extract the archive.
  2. Download the Google Apps for Galaxy Note 2 and save this archive in your PC. Don’t extract the archive.
  3. Connect and mount the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 USB mass storage to the PC using the original device’ USB cable.
  4. Move the downloaded Vanilla RootBox ROM and Google Apps zip files that you downloaded before in your PC to the root folder of your smartphone’s SD card.
  5. Once copying of files gets completed, power off the smartphone and disconnect it by removing the USB cable from the PC.
  6. Boot the device into the Recovery Mode or CWM recovery menu.
  7. In CWM recovery menu, first do a full data wipe, and then go to flash zip file from SD card option and press Power button to select it.
  8. Press the power button again and after that click on the “Chose zip from SD card option”. And after that navigate to Android 4.2.2 Vanilla RootBox ROM zip files, using the volume keys and select it with the help of the power button. Confirm for installation on the next screen and wait to complete installation process.
  9. Now repeat the above step for flashing the Google Apps
  10. After you successfully installed the custom ROM and the Google Apps, hit on ‘Go Back’ and there click on the Reboot System Now from the recovery menu. After this, your smartphone will take a reboot, and the first boot may take around 5 minutes to complete. So don’t touch anything, just leave it to complete.
