How to install the Official Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update to T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S4

So the wait is finally over, the Samsung Galaxy S4 brand of T-Mobile carrier has received the new official Android 4.4.4 KitKat Update on the version M919UVUFNH7. We will let you know the process of how to successfully flash this new update on your device.

Before launching the  process, you need to have some prerequisites. You also need to know about how to prepare the device for this process. Once you are done with this, you should move  to successfully flash the new update.

Prerequisites:

  • This is applicable only for the T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4 device. Verify the device’s model number in Settings>About Phone and make sure to confirm this is SGH-M919 model number.
  • Don’t use this post for other Android devices.
  • Now, download and install a suitable USB Driver on your PC for the device from here.
  • Download and install the Odin3 v3.09 software. This flashing tool will help you install the new Android 4.4.4 (M919UVUFNH7) firmware on your T Mobile  Galaxy S4 Android smartphone.
  • Next, enable the USB Debugging option for your device listed on the Developer Option menu.
  • Disable or uninstall the Samsung antivirus, firewall running on the computer as these types of software may interfere with the installation process.
  • If the device is a rooted one, this new update will revoke the root access. Additionally, any other custom tool (Recovery Image) and settings will also be removed.
  • If the Galaxy S4 T-Mobile device has a stock update, this process won’t delete anything.
  • If the smartphone is having a custom ROM OS, you need to know that the system memory will be erased, but your internal and external data won’t be affected.

How to update T-Mobile Galaxy S4 to Android 4.4.4 M919UVUFNH7 firmware.

  • Download the new Android 4.4.4 (M919UVUFNH7 ) ROM zip file from here. A SamMobile account is necessary to download this file.
  • Once the new update file is completely downloaded, you can extract it on your PC. You need to obtain a file with .tar.md5 extension and ‘M919UVUFNH7’.
  • Download the Odin3 v3.09 software from here.
  •  Extract this zip file and save it on your computer.
  • Open ODIN app on your PC.
  • Turn off the device completely.
  • Now, power on your Galaxy S4 T-Mobile device and boot it in the Download Mode.
  • Connect the device to your PC by using the USB cable.
  • Now, ODIN should recognize your device. In case it does not recognize, you need to reinstall the Samsung USB drivers from main ODIN app UI.
  • To do that, click on the ‘AP’ button option, browse your PC for the M919UVUFNH7 tar.md5 file and load it into ODIN.

*Important: Ensure that the ‘Re-Partition’ option is disabled.

  • Do not make any other ODIN default settings.
  • Press the Start button when the update is ready to be updated.
  • Now, do not press any other button until the ODIN application finishes the installation of Android 4.4.4 M919UVUFNH7 firmware on the device.
  • Once this is done, the ODIN app will display the “PASS” message.
  • Now, disconnect the device from your PC when the home screen is displayed.
  • It is to be noted that the first boot process of this new ROM will take some time to complete.
  • You should use your  personal Google account information and take complete control over your Android device.

Troubleshooting:

  • If the ODIN application freezes or if it shows some error. You will have to repeat the above process.
  • If the Odin application displays  that the installation process is over, the device needs more than 15 minutes to load the new files, a ‘Factory reset’ from the device’s Recovery Mode is necessary.
  • To do this, turn off the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 completely, boot the device into Recovery Mode,  and select ‘Wipe data/ Factory reset’ from the recovery menu options.
