How to Install TWRP Recovery and Root Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

The Redmi Note 4 is the latest mid-range phablet from the Xiaomi Company, and it looks like an upgraded version of Redmi Note 3. The Redmi Note 4 packs a 5-megapixel front shooter and a 13-megapixel rear camera with dual-Led flashlight, it runs on MIUI 8 based on Android Marshmallow and is powered by a non-removable 4100 mAh battery. Redmi Note 4 comes with 2GB Ram for super-fast performance, has a 2.1Ghz Media Tek Helio X20 MT6797 processor and comes with a 5.5-inch display with 1080 × 1920 pixels. Xiaomi phones are released with a locked bootloader, so a new Xiaomi device can be rooted or customized if first, you unlock the bootloader.

In this guide, we will show how to download and install TWRP Recovery on your Redmi Note 4 and root it with Super Su. TWRP Recovery will help you install custom ROM’s mods, viper4 android, Xposed framework, and other desired mods.

Before beginning the installation process, make sure that you know and apply the following prerequisites:

Download and Install TWRP recovery on Xiaomi Redmi Note 4

1. Go to the folder where you installed the ADB and hold the Shift Key and by right-clicking on any blank space, select Open command window here.

2. Connect the Redmi Note 4 device to the computer using the USB cable.

3. Reboot the phone into fast boot mode by typing the “ADB reboot bootloader” command.Your Redmi Note 4 device will reboot into fastboot mode.

4. If your phone doesn’t reboot into fastboot mode, check if the USB cable is connected properly and the drivers are installed properly. You can check a list of the connected device by typing the “fastboot devices” command.

5. To start flashing the TWRP recovery, type the “fastboot flash recovery.img” command.

How to Root Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 device using TWRP Recovery

1. Place the SuperSu.zip file downloaded from above to root of the phone’s internal memory and not in any folder.

2. Boot Redmi Note 4 into recovery mode by pressing the Volume Up and Power buttons at the same time.

3. Make a backup of all your data using TWRP Recovery.

4. Then in TWRP Recovery click on the Install menu and select the SuperSu.zip file, placed in root of internal storage.

5. Next swipe to install SuperSu.zip and you should have rooted your Redmi Note 4.

6. You can check if root access is working properly by installing Root Checker app from the Google Play.
