Pre-requisites
- First, install the USB Drivers for the LG Nexus 5 device by using this link and for Nexus 7 2013 device form here
- Save the file on your computer.
- Secondly, enable the USB Debugging Mode on the device from the next path: go to Settings > Developer Options.
- Ensure that all your important data backup is there efore starting the root process.
- The device’s bootloader and SIM are unlocked before the root procedure starts.
- Ensure that battery has 85% power left level.
How to root the Android L Developer Preview on Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013 device by using the CWM Recovery
- For Nexus 5, download the CWM Recovery and TWRP Recovery
- For Nexus 7 2013 download the CWM Recovery and TWRP Recovery custom recovery image.
- Download the SuperSU v2.00 (patched for Android L update).
- Download the boot file to fix all binary issues for Nexus 5 and Nexus 7 2013
- Now, copy the downloaded SuperSu and Boot files to the desktop of your PC.
- Note: you may use either of two custom recoveries images that you want. If the first fails to work, use the second one.
- First, power off the Nexus device and then boot it into recovery mode. (Press and keep holding the Volume Down and the Power together until the device displays the START message.
- Then, tap the Volume Down button a couple of times until the recovery option is displayed.
- Now, tap on the Volume Up key to enter into recovery mode.
- Ensure that you’ll take a Nandroid Backup for your actual ROM and your important data by navigating on the Recovery Mode to Backup and Restore menu and then select Backup.
- Now, select the Install zip from sdcard and chose zip from sdcard. Browse the location where you have saved files. Select the SuperSU file.
- Note: repeat this step to flash both files.
- Return to main menu of recovery mode, and select the reboot system now option to reboot the Nexus 5 or 7 device once you have flashed both files (SuperSu and Both files).
- The device will take a restart and the first reboot may happen during the process. You need to wait until the device will display the home screen.
How To Root The Android L Developer Preview On Nexus 5 And 7 2013 By Using The TWRP Recovery Image.
- Power off the Nexus device.
- Boot the device into recovery mode. (Press and keep holding the Volume Down and the Power button simultaneously until the device will display the Start message, then tap the Volume Down button a couple of times until the device will display the recovery option).
- Now, tap on the Volume Up key to enter into recovery mode.
- Take a Nandroid Backup by going to Backup and from there select all check boxes.
- Next, swipe on the Swipe and confirm the action located on the bottom of the screen.
- Select install, browse the location where you have saved files and from there select the SuperSU file.
- Next, go to the bottom of the display and from there do a swipe on to confirm installation option to start the root process.
- Repeat the above step to flash the both files as well.
- Next, return to the main menu of the TWRP recovery mode and from there select the reboot system now option.
- This action will reboot the device once you have flashed both the SuperSU and Boot files.
The Nexus 5 or 7 2013 device will now restart and you need to know that the first boot may take some time to be completed. So, wait until the device boots on the normal mode.
