How To Stop Apps Updating Automatically In Google Play

Androids app are really great. Be it for entertainment or something practical, these apps allow Android users to do a host of things right on their Android device. But there is a problem. Many times Google Play Store start updating these apps automatically. Thought there is no downside of this but users may end up evaporating their entire data allowance in one go. However, this can be easily fixed. In this article, you will get to know how you can stop apps from updating automatically. You can manually choose when you want to update the apps.

In typical scenario, Google Play Store updates all the downloaded apps on your device automatically so as to let you enjoy the full-fledged app experience. These updates are primarily meant to add new features and improve app performance. But users may experience device slowdown, excessive mobile data consumption, and hindrance from doing other stuff on the device. This is why it is better to switch to manual mode.

How To Disable Auto-Update Apps In Google Play

  1. Launch Google Play and open the navigation drawer. Go to Settings.
  2. In the Play Store settings, choose Auto-update apps.
  3. You’ll get three options – Do not auto-update apps; Auto-update apps at any time. Data charges may apply; and Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only.
  4. Choose the first option. Please keep in mind that this simply means that you will always need to manually update all apps in the future. If you still want apps to update automatically, just not on your data connection, choose Auto-update apps over Wi-Fi only.

How To Manually Update Apps In The Play Store

  1. If you’ve made changes to the setting in Play Store to not update apps automatically, you’ll need to update apps manually. To manually update an app, go to My apps in Google Play and open the navigation drawer and choose it (from under the main Apps & games category).
  2. You will get a tab view of your apps: the ones currently installed on your device and a main list of every app you’ve ever downloaded on your device. In the Installed list, you’ll see the apps are broken up into categories: Updates, Recently updated and Up-to-date.
  3. Apps with updates available are listed at the top. Now here you can choose to install them one at a time or all of them with the ‘Update All’ button at the top.
