HTC has launched HTC Power To Give, a program that wants to create a supercomputer using collective processing power of the Android smartphone. HTC Power To Give was developed in partnership with Dr. David Anderson, inventor of BOINC Shared Computing Initiative from the University of California, Berkeley, and Fearlessly Frank from Global Brand Consultancy.
HTC Power To Give, aims to determine the owners of smartphones to access the unused processing power of the devices to find the answers to some of the most important questions of society.
For a start, it’s compatible with HTC One family, HTC Butterfly and HTC Butterfly S.
HTC will make the application available for holders of other types of Android smartphones in the next six months.
Users can use smartphones with Android system to provide tangible support in key research areas, including medicine, science and ecology.
A million smartphones HTC One, working together on a project via HTC Power To Give, can provide the processing power similar to that of one of the 30 existing supercomputers in the world (one PetaFLOP). This can drastically shorten the research cycle for organizations that otherwise would have to lose for years analyzing the same data volume and can increase your chances of bringing to light important insights into vital issues that normally would find resolve in weeks, months, years or even decades.
After downloading the application HTC Power to Give in Google Play ™ Store, smartphones owners can select the research program they want to support it, by directing a portion of the processing power of their phones.
HTC Power To Give will run while the phone is being charged and connected to a Wi-Fi network, allowing users to change the world while sitting in the office or relax at home.
