Install The Android 4.2.2 AOKP Jelly Bean MR1 Build 4 Custom ROM On The Google Nexus 4

For the Google Nexus 4 users, today we will show you a method to install the Android 4.2.2 AOKP Jelly Bean MR1 build 4 custom ROM in their Android device. This custom ROM was developed by AOKP team (Android Open Kang Project) and has the Android 4.s.s Jelly Bean AOSP based OS included in it. You’ll find all the features and the applications components that Jelly Bean 4.2.2 comes with the same but in additional all the features from AOKP. So, if you want to flash this new custom ROM in your device, then you need to follow this step by step tutorial listed below.

Before starting the tutorial guide, you need to follow some prerequisites and rules required when flash the AOKP JB MR 1 build 4 for Google Nexus 4 device, all information and the instructions that you should know are listed in the next section, so make sure you read and understand clear all what you need to do:

How to install AOKP JB MR1 build 4 ROM based on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on Nexus 4 device:

  1. Firstly download the new custom ROM archive file from HERE or from HERE, and save it in your computer don’t extract its contents files.
  2. Secondly, download Gapps for CM 10.1 from here, this zip archive will install in your device all the Google based apps on your Nexus 4 after you flashed the new custom ROM, the version of these Google applications should be for CM 10.1 to be compatible with this custom ROM.
  3. Connect your Android device to the computer using the original USB cable.
  4. Copy and Paste the both download files on the device’s internal SDcard.
  5. Disconnect the smartphone from the computer, when the files are copied complete.
  6. Power off your Nexus 4 device.
  7. Now, boot the device into Fastboot / Bootloader mode. To do this press the following combination of buttons: Volume UP, Volume Down and Power buttons in the same time, you can release the buttons only when you’ll see on your device’s display the Bootloader Options menu.
  8. Select Recovery option from the Bootloader menu, to do that you need to press Volume Up twice time and press Power to select the booting process into TWRP Recovery mode.
  9. Take the backup for your actual ROM using the backup option from the TWRP Recovery menu and create a full NANDROID backup. This backup will be a restore point for your Nexus 4 device.
  10. Select the ‘Wipe’ option and after that the ‘Factory reset’ option. Confirm that and after this action you can flash the new custom ROM in your device. Note: for devices that already running an AOKP JB MR1 ROM firmware you can skip this step and go to the next step.
  11. From the main menu of the TWRP Recovery custom mode select ‘Install’ option, after that find the AOKP JB MR1 Build 4 zip copied file and flash it.
  12. After the new custom ROM is completely installed select again the ‘Install’ option and find the copied Gapps zip file. After you found it confirm its installation.
  13. After you installed the Gapps file return in the main menu of the Recovery menu and there select the Reboot option and after that select System option.
  14. Wait until the devices running the first boot successfully.
  15. After your device boot,  the first time in the new custom ROM join your Google account, and you start test the new operating system.

Note: If your device doesn’t booting or takes to long time to complete or your Nexus 4 device enters in a boot loop, then power off the device by pressing and keeping the Power button for 10 seconds, and reboot your device again in the Custom Recovery mode and repeat the tutorial once again.
