Install Android 4.4.2 XXUGNG8 KitKat on Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE

The new official Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware is now available for Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 device, so if you want to use a manually step-by-step guide in order to successfully install the new firmware then you can read this tutorial.

The new XXUGNG8 build of Android 4.4.2 has a much more recent build date than the other firmware versions which are available for Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE devices.

Prerequisites:

  • This guide is especially created for Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE I9505 device, so do not use the same for any other similar device.
  • Check the model number of the device by following the next path: Settings> About Device, make sure that the model listed there is I9505 version.
  • Download and flash the USB Drivers for your PC from here.
  • In order to flash the new update use ODIN3 v3.09 application.
  • Enable the USB Debugging mode from Developer Options menu.
  • Now, disable/uninstall the Samsung KIES app, antivirus apps from your PC, these kinds of application may interfere with the installation process.
  • If the device is a rooted one, then once the new official update is installed the root access will be revoked.
  • Any custom Recovery images that are installed and running on your device will be replaced with a Stock Recovery one.
  • If the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE device is running any custom ROM, then this manually update will wipe the system memory device and in addition you’ll need to apply a ‘factory reset’ after the installation process is done.

How to install the Android 4.4.2 XXUGNG8 for Galaxy S4 I9505 LTE device:

  1. Download the Android 4.4.2 (I9505XXUGNG8) zip file from here. Au user account is required in order to download the file.
  2. Once the custom ROM is successfully downloaded, you need to extract all its contents to obtain a file with tar.md5 extension.
  3. Now, download the ODIN app from here, save it in your PC and extract its contents on your PC.
  4. Turn off the device now.
  5. Boot the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE device into Android Download Mode.
  6. Open the ODIN 3 v3.09 exe file on the PC.
  7. Now, connect the device to your PC by using the USB cable.
  8. Now, wait for ODIN to recognize the device, if the device is not recognized, then you need to reinstall the Samsung USB Drivers for your PC.
  9. Go to ODIN app and click on the ‘AP’ button, now load the I9505XXUGNG8 tar.md5 zip file in Odin application.
  10. Check and make sure that the ‘Re-partition’ option is disabled.
  11. Do not make any other default ODIN settings.
  12. Now, press the START button when you’re ready to start the update process.
  13. Now, just wait and do not press any buttons until the firmware update is not done.
  14. Once the installation process is done you’ll see that the device will get an automatically restart and the ODIN app will says all files are successfully installed and will display the “PASS” message.
  15. Note that the first boot process will take a while to be completed, so be patience until the first home screen is completely loaded by your device.
  16. Join your Google account Samsung Profile and take the full control over your device.

Troubleshooting:

  •  If the ODIN freezes, and will show a fail message then you should try to do once again the whole guide.
  • Make sure that you do not skip any steps from there.
  • If the ODIN application confirms that the update is done but the Samsung Galaxy S4 LTE device does not boot into normal mode, then you will have to do a ‘factory reset’.

This step by step process should be applied by the users who have flashed the new Android 4.4.2 update over a custom ROM OS.

Note:

How to apply the ‘factory reset’ step, you need turn off the device and then boot the device into Custom Recovery Mode, from there choose the ‘wipe data/ factory reset’ and confirm. Now restart the tablet into normal mode.
