How to Install the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on the Samsung Galaxy Note 5 from Canada

Samsung has released the latest Marshmallow 6.0.1 firmware update for all its Galaxy Note 5 devices in Canada. The Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow official OTA update is being launched in phases that means not all Galaxy Note 5 users will receive the new update at the same time. The new update can be installed manually using the Odin tool, so to learn how you can manually install this new update for your device, check all the guidelines from below. The Odin app can be used also for restoring your Galaxy Note 5 device to the stock firmware in case you have installed a custom ROM.

Please note that these instructions should be applied only by advanced Galaxy Note 5 users. So if you want to manually install the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on your Canadian Samsung Galaxy Note 5 before starting the flashing procedure, first check the prerequisites listed below:

How to install Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow on Canadian Samsung Galaxy Note 5 N920W8 with ODIN

  1. On your computer, download from here Android 6.0.1 MM firmware archive. Make sure you grab the archive file that corresponds to your Canadian carrier.
  2. When the download is over, unzip the archived files and save them on your computer. You’ll obtain the tar.md5 update file, don’t unzip it.
  3. Download from here the Odin 3.10.7 zip files on your computer and extract the files.
  4. Power off your Galaxy Note 5 device and then boot it into Download Mode.
  5. Launch Odin exe on your computer.
  6. Connect the smartphone to the computer using the USB cable and wait for Odin to detect the smartphone. If the smartphone is not added, then you will have to reinstall the Samsung USB drivers one more time.
  7. In ODIN, click the AP button and load the Android 6.0.1 tar.md5 firmware update file. Make sure that the ‘’Re-partition’’ option is not enabled under the Odin “options” tab.
  8. Click START to begin the update process of your Galaxy Note 5 device.
  9. When the update is completed you will see the PASS message displayed by ODIN and the device reboots.
  10. You can unplug the smartphone from the computer when the “optimizing apps” screen loads.
  11. The first boot after the installation of Android 6.0.1 will take more than usual to complete. If the reboot is unsuccessful, check the “notes” from below.

If ODIN is showing the FAIL alert or any other errors stop you from installing the new official ROM, you’ll will have to repeat the tutorial one more time and make sure that your Galaxy Note 5 meets all requirements and that you follow all steps of the above tutorial.
