The first official OTA firmware update has been rolled out for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Version I9195.

 

If you don’t want to wait the automatically OTA notification, this tutorial will teach your how to manually install the officially Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean UBUAMF5 firmware on the Galaxy S4 Mini device.

This new update comes first from Samsung in Chile, and it is an official update based on the Android 4.2.2 and named UBUAMF5 firmware.

You need a PC with an internet connection available, the USB cord and a special software for flashing named ODIN developed by Samsung.

This update can be applied on both rooted an un-rooted S4 Mini devices, but for a rooted device once you install an official firmware the root rights will be revoked.

In case you have a rooted device after this update your warranty will be restored, and all factory restrictions will be reactivated by default.

So before you know how to flash the new update on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini device you need to follow some preparation guidelines and pre-requisites: .

  • This new Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean UBUAMF5 firmware works only with Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini model number I9195.
  • This  guide will use ODIN app and you don’t need to have root rights or other custom tools installed on the device.
  • This is a manual method, and take a full backup for your personal and important data is required,
  • So a windows PC is required together with original USB cable for the S4 Mini device. .
  • All security applications need to be uninstalled or disabled,  applications such as Antivirus or Firewall. It can interfere with the installation process and can interrupt all communications between PC and Android device.
  • Enable USB debugging option on the S4 Mine device.
  • Make sure that the device’s battery has more than 70 % power left.

How to Update Galaxy S4 Mini I9195 to Official JB 4.2.2 UBUAMF5 Firmware

  1. First, Download the software file from here.
  2. Save the downloaded file on the PC and extract its content on desktop folder.
  3. Now, download and install suitable drivers for Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini device, you can  download Samsung KIES and install the same on your computer.
  4. Next, download Odin flashing tool.
  5. Install Odin on your PC.
  6. Run Odin from your computer.
  7. Turn off the Glaxy S4 Mini smartphone.
  8. Boot the device into download mode, for entering into download mode press and keep the Power, Volume Down and Home buttons together.
  9. Now, connect your smartphone to the PC using the USB cable.
  10. Take a look on Odin and if there is displayed “added” message and ID:COM section colored yellow that means S4 Mini device is recognized by the ODIN and the connection is successfully realized,
  11. In this case,  you’ll have to disconnect the USB cable from PC, close ODIN app, change the USB port to your PC and reinstall the suitable drivers again on PC.
  12. Then, repeat all steps from the beginning.
  13. Now, from Odin application select “PDA” button.
  14. From the window that opens browse, and select  the extracted firmware file from desktop folder
  15. Now make sure you don’t make any other changes – verify the “re-partiotion” box must be unchecked.
  16. When you want to start the flashing process, press the “Start” button from ODIN
  17. Now, the installation operation starts
  18. When the flashing process is done, Odin will display a “pass” message.
  19. Disconnect safely the smartphone from the PC
  20. Reboot your smartphone.

Troubleshooting:

In case ODIN app gets stuck you have to do:

  • Close the ODIN app.
  • Disconnect the USB cable.
  • Force restarts your smartphone.
  • Reinstall the driver son the PC.
  • Repeat all step by step guide, from the beginning.

In case the Galaxy S4 Mini gets stuck in a boot loop you need to do:

  • First, power off the smartphone
  • Second, reboot it into recovery mode (press Volume UP+ Power + Home buttons at the same time).
  • From Recovery Mode menu, select “wipe data factory reset” and after “wipe cache partition”.
  • Now, return on the main Recovery Mode menu and reboot the phone.
  • That’s all, now the latest officially Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean UBUAMF5 firmware has been manually flashed on the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini device.
