Install Official Android 4.4.2 I535VRUDNE KitKat Update on Verizon Galaxy S3

The new Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA update for Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 device has been officially released and we will show you a step by step guide about how to flash it manually.

The new update has come as an OTA launch, but it will be launched out in phases. But not all users of Verizon Galaxy S3 will receive it at the same time. Those users can learn it from this article.

In case, the device has a custom ROM installed on your device, it cannot receive official Android updates. So if you want to install on your device the new official update, you need to use ODIN application and flash the new official firmware releases.

Preparation

 This is applicable only for Samsung Galaxy S3 and not for other versions of mobile. To verify the device’s model number, you should go to Settings >About Phones and make sure that the device version is I535.

  • Do not use this device for other models.
  • Download and install suitable Samsung USB Driver on your PC.
  • You’ll need a PC, device’s USB cable cord, ODIN flashing tool and the Verizon Galaxy S3 device.
  • Now, enable the USB Debugging mode from the Developer Options menu.
  • Disable or uninstall the Samsung KIES and all antivirus, firmware or antimalware programs from your computer. These kinds of tools interfere with the ODIN application and the installing process.
  • If the Verizon Galaxy S3 device is a rooted one, this update will revoke the root access Moreover, the flashing of an official Android firmware will replace any custom Kernel.
  • If the device has already installed a custom ROM, the new update will wipe all data existent on the system partition.
  • Note that the installation of the official update does not affect the data from the internal/ external storage of the Verizon Galaxy S3 device.
  • Once the new official Android 4.4.2 KK update is flashed with the ODIN application,   you need to apply a “factory reset” after the update process is done.

How To Update The Verizon Galaxy S3 Device With Android 4.4.2 I535VRUDNE OTA Update:

  1. First, download the new Android 4.4.2 I535VRUDNE file from here.
  2. For this open a SamMobile account.  Extract the downloaded zip file to get the I535VRUDNE tar.md5 file; do not extract it in in the next step. Save it on your PC only.
  3. Now, download the ODIN3 v3.09 flashing tool from here, extract the ODIN zip files and then save it on your PC.
  4. Turn off the device.
  5. Next, boot the Verizon Galaxy S3 device into Download Mode.
  6. Open the ODIN software by launching the Odin3 v3.09 exe file on your PC.
  7. Now, connect the device with the Verizon Galaxy S3 device with your Computer.
  8. Wait for ODIN application to detect the device; if the device isn’t recognized by the PC, you need to re-install the Samsung USB Drivers in the S3 device.
  9. From the ODIN app’s UI click the “AP” button.
  10. Now, browse your Computer for the I535VRUDNE tar.md5 file extracted above.
  11. Load the downloaded and extracted file in ODIN.
  12. Ensure that the “repartition” option is disabled in ODIN, don’t edit additional default settings.
  13. Press Start button when you want to begin the flashing process of Android 4.4.2 I535VRUDNE update on the VRZ Galaxy S3 device.
  14. The flashing process will take few minutes to be done. During the flashing process, don’t press any button until the ODIN application displays that files are successfully installed.
  15. When the flashing process is done the S3 device will get a restart. It will take several minutes to be done. Now, you can take the control on your device.

Congratulation, the flashing process of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat  I535VRUDNE firmware file is now completed on the Verizon Galaxy S3 device.

Troubleshooting:

  • If the ODIN application fails to install the files and will display some errors, you will have to repeat all the installation process.
  • Verify once again if the SCH-I535 model number is listed under Settings> About Device If the Galaxy S3 device stucks or enter into boot loop, you need to apply an Factory Reset:
  1. Power off the device completely.
  2. Now, boot the device into Recovery Mode Menu.
  3. Select from the Recovery Mode the ‘Wipe data/ Factory reset’ option and confirm.
  4. After the “Factory Reset” operation, reboot the device into Normal Mode.
