Install stock XXEMG4 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 using OTA,KIES or Manually method

Samsung has released a new official update for its international version of Galaxy S3 model number GT-I9300. This new update is based on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and is named XXEMG4.

 

The latest update can be installed by OTA or using Samsung KIES app. It is exclusively released for the Galaxy S3 users from UK. The XXEMG4 is an unbranded firmware version which can be flashed on any Samsung Galaxy S3 model number I9300 devices except GALAXY S3 units Hong Kong,Taiwan and China.

The main firmware detail for XXEMG4 version includes the PDA: I9300XXEMG4, the CSC: I9300OXAEMG4. This new firmware is released for United Kingdom and its Modem is I9300XXEMG4.

This present step-by-step instructional guide is meant for those who want to install the official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXEMG4 version on their S3 device via OTA, KOES software or ODIN app for a manually flashing procedure. Pre-requisites:

 How to update Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 to latest Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXEMG4 version via OTA 

  1.  First, make sure the S3 smartphone has stable internet connection; it is recommended to have a Wi-Fi internet data connection.
  2. Second, from the Galaxy S3 device’s menu go to Android apps drawer and from there select Settings.
  3. Now, select About device> Software update>Update option.
  4. There you should see a new update available, that means you received the latest OS update notification.
  5. Next, press OK button to download and install the new XXEMG4 firmware.
  6. When the installation is complete the smartphone will take an automatically restart.
  7. In case you see the message:  The latest updates have already been installed, and then you should wait for another OTA update from Samsung.

That’s it, the new XXEMG4 Jelly Bean 4.1.2 OTA update was downloaded and installed on the Samsung Galaxy S3 device.

How to install the XXEMG4 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean to Galaxy S3 I9300 device via Samsung KIES software:

  1.  First, a computer with a stable internet connection and the original USB cable will be used additional with the S3 device.
  2. Second, download and install Samsung KIES on the PC use these links, for Windows PCs from Here, and for MAC PCs from Here.
  3. Now, connect the S3 device to the PC via USB cable.
  4. Next, open up the Samsung Kies software on the PC. The KIES app should detect the S3 device.
  5. Samsung Kies app should appear a New Firmware Upgrade Is Available.
  6. Now, when you want to start the update process, press on Firmware Upgrade button.
  7. Check the box, to accept the terms and conditions about the new upgrade and then begin the process by pressing the START Upgrade.
  8. Wait until the download and installation processes is over.
  9.  When the installation process is done, the device will get an automatic reboot.
  10.  That’s it. The installation of the new OS is done now.
  11. Verify the new version of OS by navigating to SettingsAbout deviceAndroid & Baseband version.

Flash the official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean (XXEMG4) firmware on Galaxy S3 GT-I9300 using Odin software.

  1.  First, download the official Jelly Bean XXEMG4 4.1.2 file to the PC.
  2. Second, extract the downloaded zip file to get a .tar.md5 file with other files.
  3. Now, download ODIN app extract its content and install the same.
  4.  Turn off the S3 device completely.
  5. Next, boot it into Download Mode. (Press and keep holding the Home and Volume Down buttons simultaneously and then press the Power button, when a construction Android robot logo together with a triangle  is displayed, press the Volume UP button).
  6.  Open Odin3 v3.07.exe as an Administrator on your PC.
  7. Now, connect the SGS3 device to the PC via USB cord while the device is in the Download Mode.
  8. Odin app should recognize the device, and it has  to display the Added message when the connection is done. Also, the ID:COM area and the COM port number from ODIN will turn on blue, indicating the connection is successfully done.
  9. Note:  If the ODIN app didn’t recognize the device and the Added message doesn’t appear,  change the USB port connection with other one and reinstall the USB drivers once again.
  10. Now, select and load for installing the necessary files for update process as below:
    a)    From the ODIN app, click the PDA button, browse and select the .tar.md5 file.b)    From the ODIN app, click the Phone button, browse and select the file which contains the Modem in its name.
  1. c)    From the ODIN app clickCSC button, then browse and select the file that containsCSC in its name.
  2. d)   Now, from the ODIN software click thePIT button then browse and select the file with .pit 

Note: Ignore next steps (b, c and d) if there such files don’t exist.

  1. Important: On the ODIN settings you have to configure like that:
  2. Make sure that the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are selected. Also make sure that the Re-Partition option is unchecked, select it only when a .pit file is loaded and for using.
  3.  Now, when you want to begin the flashing process, click the Start button in Odin flashing tool
  4.  The flashing Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean process should start now, and it takes  few minutes to complete the process.
  5. When the flashing process is done, the SGS3 device will automatically restart, and in the ODIN app a PASS message will be displayed, that indicates  the installation process is successfully done.
  6. Now, disconnect the Galaxy S3 device from the PC.

The smartphone should now be running with the new official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXEMG4 version.

To verify the version if the actual OS, navigate to the next path: Settings>About device>Android & Baseband
