No Android KitKat Update For Sony Xperia SP, Xperia L, Xperia M And Xperia M Dual

Sony Xperia SP

Sony Xperia SP, Xperia L, Xperia M and Xperia M Dual will no longer get software updates as Sony confirmed via its software support pages that all these handsets have reached their end of life in terms of software support.

Sony has decided that the mentioned devices will not receive any further updates, so it indicates their current software versions are the last that you’ll receive.

If you own the Sony Xperia L, you will be stuck on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, arrived on October last year and if you use the Xperia M, M Dual, or Xperia SP you will remain on Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, released early this year.

It is definitely a sad news to the users of these terminals, in particular for the short time they are on the market, about a year and a half.

These terminals have similar specifications, all having 1GB of RAM plus dual-core processor, so it seems like a bizarre decision, given that KitKat’s capacity to run on devices with only 512MB of RAM, but probably the features presented by them appear to impede the running of Android 4.4.2 KitKat with the necessary fluidity that the manufacturer requires.

Surely such confirmation will not make happy the owners of these handsets, but as always we must appreciate Sony for being fair about its update plans.

Fortunately, for those of you that wants to have a newer Android operating system, can flash unofficial custom ROMs on its Xperia SP, Xperia M, Xperia M Dual or Xperia L device but with the implied risks in such interventions. CyanogenMod, for example, has nightlies for CM11 for the mentioned devices.

For those of you who do not know whether or not your Xperia handset is on the list of upgrades, you can check the Sony’s website that manufacturer has provided for this purpose, informing what was the release version of the software for your device, which is and if it will stay there forever.
