I will show you how easily you can Root the Google Nexus 5 device having Android 4.4.3 KitKat update.  The new update comes with numerous changes, bug fixes, and tweaks to increase the device performances.  So, if you want to root your device, you need to know the risks involved in the process and you should do this only when you are an  advanced Android user.

Before starting the Root process you need to follow some prerequisites that are required to be applied firstly:

  • Create a full backup of all your data from the Google Nexus 5 device
  • You can take the  SMS backup and restore application, contacts by using the sync method with Gmail application, call Logs with call Logs backup and restore, images, audio files, videos and other files.  Then you need to take the backup of the APN and MMS Settings from the next path: “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”

How to Root the Google Nexus 5 device on Android 4.4.3 KitKat OS:

  1. First, download the TWRP Recovery image for Nexus 5
  2. Now, download the ADB files (Windows, Mac and Linux) and save them in your PC.
  3. Extract the ADB and Fastboot zip file in a folder called “android”, rename the TWRP image file with the “nexus5.image” name.
  4. Next, boot the Nexus 5 Android device in the boot loader mode (Power off the device, press the Volume UP and Volume Down and Power button simultaneously).
  5. Now, connect the Nexus 5 device to the PC by using the USB cable.
  6. Open the terminal or command prompt file from the created “Android” folder. Press the “Win + R” and then when a window is open, enter “cmd” and hit the Enter button.
  7. Now, enter the command line “fastboot devices” into CMD window.
  8. Unlock the boot loader, enter the next command: Fastboot oem unlock
  9. Now, ensure that you accept all displayed commands in the Google Nexus 5 Android device and once the boot loader is unlocked, the Nexus 5 device will take a reboot.
  10. Next, flash the TWRP Recovery image in the Nexus 5 device by entering: Fastboot flash recovery nexus5.img
  11. Nexus5.img file represents the name of the recovery image.
  12. Now by using the volume buttons, you need to enter the device in the “Recovery Mode” by selecting this option.
  13. Once the device enters into the TWRP Recovery, you need to select the “Reboot” menu by taping on it, and after that select the “System” option to root the device.
  14. Once the device is rooted you need to download the Root Checker application from the Play Store.
  15. The Root Checker will help you  verify, if the device has been rooted successfully.

Troubleshooting:

If the Nexus 5 device gets stuck, press long on the power button and turn off the device and then follow all the above steps once again and restart the device.
