At SXSW conference, yesterday, Google SVP of Android, Chrome & Apps Sundar Pichai announced that the organization is going to deliver a SDK for wearable devices in the following two weeks to build a standard method for sensors to speak to the Android OS. Google is concentrating on wearables at a platform level. Which means that Google’s aim is to make its technology friendly to a large diversity of wearable devices.
Sundar Pichai said that, they want to develop a collection of standard protocols by which they can work together. The software development kit will be used by developers to developing apps for wearable devices like games and fitness trackers. Wearable devices may involve smart-watches, smart-glasses, smart-jackets and fitness bands.
Pichai did not refer at either Google was creating a new wearable device, yet there are rumors of cooperation with LG Electronics on a brand-new smart-watch. The LG smart-watch is supposed to have always-on entree to Google Now so that you can talk commands when you want and receive feedback immediately. The new smart watch is awaited to be published at the Google I/O developer event this year, in June.
Google Glass is the well-known Google’s a wearable device. Google Glass has a visual head-mounted display that displays information based on normal language commands. Google Glass has a 5-megapixel camera that can record video at 720p.
Google competes with Apple under a series of classes and the wearables market will probably not be an exception. Last year in December, Apple operations head Jeff Williams gather together with U.S. FDA officials Dr. Margaret Hamburg together with Dr. Jeffrey Shuren to debate about portable medical applications. Apple is seems to be working on sensor technology that could prognosticate heart attacks as San Francisco Chronicle sais.
The working on technology team from Apple is driven by Tomlinson Holman, who is recognized for inventing the first 10.2 sound system and the Lucasfilm THX sound system. Tomlison Holman is thinking ways to prognosticate heart attacks by analyzing the sounds that blood makes when it flows through arteries. Lately, Apple has been engaging health and medical experts to prepare for releasing new products.
During the discussion at SXSW with John Battelle, Pichai was asked if Google is designing to put Android on devices manufactured by Nest, which is a home computerization company that Google got it for $3.2 billion. Nest is well-known for producing and designing thermostats and smoke detectors which are sensor-driven including self-learning. Pichai didn’t answer the topic, but suggested that Nest could be a piece of a “mesh layer” that Google is making, which would permit devices to operate together.
With 61,9% market share, Google Android is the most famous smartphone platform in the world as Gartner sais. A version of Google Android is applied to Google TV and Google Glass. The Google Chromecast likewise uses code from the Android OS. Pichai declared that over one million Chromecasts have been already sold, and it will be delivered internationally soon. Google Chromecast is used as mirroring mobile devices to TVs and streaming TV shows and movies.
