Update Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 P5100 to Official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean Firmware

Update Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 to Android 4.2.2

Getting updates of existing devices have always been a welcome development. The international 3G+ Wi-Fi version of Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.10.1 model number GT-P5100 with Android 4.1.2 OS version installed on it has received a latest Android 4.2.2 software namely P5100XXDMH1.

This latest update is currently available for Galaxy Tab 2.10.1 users in France with the PDA: P5100XXDMH1, CSC: P5100OXADDMH1and Modem: P5100XXDMG1. This latest update has been released by OTA and through Samsung KIES server software.

Those who didn’t received this latest update using the official methods (OTA update and KIES method) can manually install it by following our step-by-step instructions listed here.

Download and install the suitable USB drivers for the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 device.

Now, from Menu>Settings>Applications>Development options enable USB Debugging Mode on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 tablet.

Back-up all your personal data stored in device’ internal memory. A manual flashing method is always risky, and this guide is likely to wipe out all data of the tablet.

If, in the device, a custom recovery image is installed, create a full Nandroid back-up for the existing running ROM.

Make sure that the device’ battery is at least 85% charged.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.10.1 model number GT-P5100 should be factory unlocked (not locked to a particular mobile carrier).

Once the new official update is installed in the device, the root rights will be revoked, if previously the device has been rooted.

Also, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2.10.1 model number GT-P5100 will lose all custom settings, recovery tools ( will be replaced with a stock one), and custom ROM, once the official firmware is installed on it. But the warranty for it will be restored.

The new Android 4.2.2 Kelly Bean XXDMH1 version works and is compatible only with Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100, knowing that don’t try to install the same on any other device.

To be sure about the version of the device verify it by navigating to: Settings>About tablet> Model number.

How to install XXDMH1 Android 4.2.2 on Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 GT-P5100

  1. Download the latest Firmware (XXDMH1 Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean) from here and save it to the PC.
  2. Extract the downloaded file and get a file with .tar.md5 extension plus some other supplementary files.
  3. Next download the Odin v3.07 from here.
  4. Extract the downloaded Odin zip file and make sure that you get Odin3 v3.07.exe and other files.
  5. Power off the Galaxy Tab 2 tablet.
  6. Boot the Galaxy Tab 2 device into Download Mode ( to do this press and keep holding the Volume Down and the Power buttons at the same time until an Android robot draw with some constructions elements and a warning triangle is displayed. Now press the Volume Up button to continue the Download Mode option.
  7. Run the ODIN app from your PC by running the Odin3 v3.07 as Administrator.
  8. Now, connect the tablet to the PC by using the USB cable while the device is in Download Mode.
  9. Odin now must detect the Galaxy device, when the device is successfully connected. The ODIN app will display the ADDED message under the ODIN message box on its interface. Also, when the connect ion is done the ID:COM box with the COM port number in Odin will be collared blue that indicate the connection is established, and you can move to the next step.

Note: in case the ADDED message doesn’t appear, you need to disconnect the device and to try another USB port from PC and to reinstall the USB drivers once again.

  1. When all the steps from above are successfully passed, select the following extracted files from the P5100XXDMH1 folder to install the new Android 4.2.2 firmware on the tablet:
    • From ODIN click the PDA button, browse and select the file with .tar.md5 extension
    • From ODIN app click the Phone button, then browse and select the file with Modem word in its name, skip this step if there is not any file with this specification.
    • From the ODIN app click the CSC button, then browse and select file that contains CSC word in its name skip this step if there isn’t any file like this.
    • Click the PIT button and select the .pit file if there is any file like this, if not skip this step.
  2. Important: Make sure that the Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes from ODIN are selected and the Re-Partition option is unchecked; check the Re-partition option only a .pit file is loaded previously.
  3. Now, verify once again all the above settings and steps to correspond such as descriptions.
  4. Press Start button in ODIN app.
  5. The installation process immediately begins, and it will take few minutes to complete all the file installation, so be patient.
  6. When the flashing process is done, the Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 will restart automatically.
  7. Also, a PASS message will be displayed with a green background; that’s means the installation is completely done.
  8. Disconnect the USB cord from the PC.

The process is complete.Verify the firmware version from the next path: Settings>About tablet.

Troubleshooting :

If the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 device gets stuck at the first boot animation or, it is entering into a bootloop after the Pass message you have to do:

Force boot the tablet into Recovery Mode (press and keep holding the Volume Up and Power Buttons together)

From the Recovery Mode select the wipe data/factory reset then select Wipe Cache Partition to perform a wiping task.  (When a wiping task is performed, all the data from the device will be erased that’s why a full backup is necessary).

When the wiping task is completely done, return to the main menu of Recovery Mode.

From the main menu of the Recovery Mode select reboot system now.

Note: to navigate between different options from the Recovery Mode use the Volume buttons, and to select the desired option use the Power button.

To run a program such as Administrator: right-click on the exe file then click on Run as administrator from the context menu.
