The good news for all Nexus 4 devices’ owners is that they can now update their device to custom Android 4.3 Jelly Bean OS via CM 10.2 Nightly ROM firmware developed by CyanogenMod Team.
The new custom ROM comes with numerous features for the Nexus 4 device; it enhances performance and optimization. The new custom Android 4.3 CM 10.2 Nightly ROM firmware is based on AOSP release, and it comes with the best and stable custom tweaks for Google Nexus 4 device.
Pre-requisites:
- This new custom ROM (CyanogenMod 10.2 ROM), instructions and information work only for Google Nexus 4 device only.
- To verify the device model number, you need to navigate to the next path: Settings > About Phone.
- Back-up all your personal data, market applications, settings stored in the device internal memory.
- To do that you should use suitable backup and restore applications from Google Play and use a custom recovery tool (CWM or TWRP) to get a full Nandroid backup for device’s actual ROM. Download and install the appropriate USB drivers for Google Nexus 4 device on PC.
- From to Settings > Applications > Development or Settings > Developer Options path enable the USB debugging mode.
- Make sure that the device’s battery is at 80 % level of power to prevent an unexpected smartphone power off while flashing ROM firmware.
- The device needs to be an unlocked and not locked to specific mobile carrier device.
- Make sure that the device is rooted and has a custom recovery image installed on it such as CWM or TWRP recovery.
How to Install custom Android 4.3 Jelly Bean via CM 10.2 ROM on Google Nexus 4
- First, download the CyanogenMod 10.2 Nightly ROM based on Android 4.3 file and save it in your PC.
- Download Google Apps for Galaxy Nexus 4 on PC.
- Now, connect the device via USB cable to PC.
- Move (Copy and Paste) the downloaded CyanogenMod 10.2 Nightly ROM and Google Apps files to the root folder on device’s SD card memory.
- Next, turn off the device.
- Disconnect the device from PC by removing its USB cable.
- Boot the Google Nexus device into Bootloader Mode (Press and keep holding the Volume UP + Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time) after the Bootloader option is selected you’ll enter into Recovery Mode.
- Now, boot the phone into Bootloader mode by pressing and holding Volume Up, Volume Down and Power buttons together.
- Now, from Bootloader mode perform full data wipe task, to do this select Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
- In ClockworkMod recovery, perform full data wipe task by choosing Wipe Data / Factory Reset.
- Once the wipe process is complete perform a Wipe Cache Partition.
- Wait until the process completes and then from advance option select Wipe Dalvik Cache. This process is necessary to prevent ROM related errors or other boot loop issues.
- After the wipe process is completed, return your device to main recovery mode menu, select Install Zip from SD card, pick Choose Zip from SD card.
- Browse the earlier copied CyanogenMod 10.2 Nightly ROM based on Android 4.3 ROM zip file to the smartphone, select it by pressing on Power button.
- Confirm its installations and the flashing process will start immediately.
- Once the installation process is complete, repeat the previous step for flashing the Google Apps file as well.
- Wait to complete the Google apps installation and then select “+++++Go Back+++++” to the main Recovery Mode menu.
- From the main Recovery Mode menu choose reboot system now.
- The Google Nexus 4 smartphone will now get a reboot automatically.
Note that the first boot of the Nexus device might take about four or five minutes to complete..
Congratulation, the custom Android 4.3 based CM 10.2 Nightly ROM is now running on Google Nexus 4 device.
To verify the new firmware version flashed on the device go to Settings > About Phone.
Troubleshooting:
- If the Google Nexus 4 device is stuck at the first boot or it is enters into a boot loop, you have to Wipe Cache Partition and Wipe Dalvik Cache few more times before rebooting the device.
- If a Status 7 error message is displayed while flashing the new firmware, it means the device is incompatible or there isn’t a necessary kernel, a Jelly Bean Kernel must be flashed before installing any Android Jelly Bean ROM.
