How To Update Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 to official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXMF1 Firmware

Samsung Glaxy  Ace 2 I8160 smartphone’s users, will get the  Android Jelly Bean. This has been launched by  OTA and  named XXMF1 version. However, it will be launched in different markets in different time. If the update has not been launched in your region, you can still update it by reading our step bystep guide.

 

This new firmware is an official update and for this we will use a specific flashing tool named ODIN app developed be Samsung.

Pre-requisites:

  • This guide is compatible with all Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 model number I8160 devices (looked, rooted and with a custom recovery images installed as CWM or TWRP recovery tools and on locked devices boot -loaders too). If the Ace 2 device is a rooted one, the root rights will be revoked and also its warranty restored.
  • Create the backup all the Ace 2 data before moving to the next section.  when ODIN gets stuck, or the device entering after the flashing process on a loop, you’ll have to wipe your system of the device, and all the data stored into device’s internal memory will be erased.
  • To get the full backup, you can use backup and restore application from Google Play Store, or if your device has a custom recovery tool installed such as CWM or TWRP, you can create a full Nandroid back-up from Recovery Mode Menu.
  • Odin is compatible and works only on a Windows-based PC, so make sure you have one.
  • Deactivate or uninstall all security protection and tools from PC and the Android device because the Antivirus and Firewall programs can interfere with the flashing process and can interrupt the same.
  • Also, the original USB cable for ACE 2 will be used during the step by step guide.
  • Enable the USB debugging option from “Settings -> Applications -> Development”.
  • Make sure you will follow the steps as instructed in the guide.
  • Charge the Galaxy ACE 2 device’s battery before starting the flashing process; make sure that the battery level is more than 70 % power left.
  • This new firmware (Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXMF1 firmware) works with Samsung Galaxy ACE 2 model number I8160 only, do not use any other device model.

How to Update Galaxy Ace 2 to official Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XXMF1 Firmware

  • Download the firmware file from here and save it on your PC.
  • Extract the downloaded file on the PC’s desktop.
  • Download the ODIN app from the link and save it in your PC, unzip it and install the application on your PC.
  • Run Odin app.
  • Download and install the appropriate Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 USB drivers; you can use the Samsung KIES app for installing the suitable drivers.
  • Power off the phone completely. Boot it into download mode by pressing the Power, Volume Down and Home buttons simultaneously.
  • While the device is booted into Download Mode and with the ODIN app running on the PC, connect the ACE 2 device to PC using the USB cord.
  • Now, once the connection is established on ODIN app must to be displayed the “added” message, and the ID: COM section will be colored on yellow or blue.
  • IF not, you need to disconnect the USB cable, close ODIN app, reinstall the USB drivers on the PC, change the USB port, and repeat all the steps from above.
  • If everything it is going as planned, you can move to the next step.
  • From ODIN select the “PDA” button.
  • Then, browse and pick up the extracted update file from the desktop.
  • Now, make sure that on ODIN app check the re-partition option and the f. reset time option
  • Next, when you want to start the installation process click on “start”.
  • The flashing process will begin immediately.
  • Wait while the flashing process is running.
  • When the installation process is done on ODIN will appear a “pass” message together with the ID:COM section colored in green.
  • Now, disconnect the Samsung Ace 2 device from the PC by safely removing the USB cord and reboot the Android smartphone.

Troubleshooting:

If the smartphone gets stuck or it is entering into a boot loop you have to :

  • Reboot the device into recovery Mode (Press and keep holding the Power, Volume Up and Home buttons simultaneously for a few seconds).
  • Select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition”.
