Update Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 to Official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXEMD2 Firmware

Good news for all Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 owners.  This new firmware is now available for their device. This latest firmware is based on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and is named XXEDMD2 version. The new update can be installed by OTA, with KIES application and with a manually method. This Article will present you a step by step guide about how manually install the XXEDMD2 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware on Galaxy S3 I9300 device.

The latest I9300XXEMD2 firmware is an officially released firmware by Samsung, and for flashing isn’t required to have installed a custom recovery image such as CWM or TWRP. The main advantage is that firmware is complete unbranded, that means you can flash the same for any International Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 device.

How to Install Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XXEMD2 on Samsung Galaxy S3 I9300 device:

  1. Download Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean I9300XXEMD2 file to your PC and after the download is completed extract the archive zip file.
  2. Download ODIN v3.07 app, this application will be used to install the latest firmware Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on SGS3 I9300 device.
  3. Now, power off your device and wait a few seconds to be power off completely.
  4. Boot your device into Download Mode, by pressing and keeping hold in the same time the Volume Down + Home + Power buttons till your device will display a construction Android logo with a robot together with a triangle, when you’ll see these graphics elements on the screen press the Power button again for confirming you want to enter into Download Mode.
  5. Make sure the suitable USB drivers for your Samsung Galaxy S3 are installed on your PC.

  10. If your smartphone is connected successfully and everything is working as I explained you previously in the ODIN app, select the “PDA” option from the ODIN app.
  11. Now, browse and pick the update file that you extracted previously from your PC.
  12. Important: make sure that in the ODIN interface,  the “Re-Partition” box is unchecked.
  13. When you’re ready, you can click on the “Start” button to begin the installation process.
  14. Now, wait until the XXEMD2 firmware will be installed to your Samsung Galaxy S3 device.
  15. When the flashing process is done, on ODIN app the “pass” message will be showed.
  16. After you see the home screen disconnect your device from the PC and reboot the SGS3 smartphone.

Tips in case of issues, and Troubleshooting.

  • Note1: If in the end of the installation process your Samsung Galaxy S3 device will get stuck or will enter in a boot loop you will have to do:

  1. Reboot your device in the Recovery Mode. (Press the Volume Up + Home + Power buttons simultaneous)
  2. From the Recovery Mode menu,  you need to select “wipe data factory reset” and after that “wipe cache partition”;
  3. Now, comeback to the main menu by selecting “+++go back+++”.
  4. From the main menu of the Recovery Mode select “reboot system now”.
  • Note2: If ODIN gets stuck or will freeze its interface you’ll have to:

  1. Firstly, close ODIN app on your PC.
  2. Secondly, disconnect the SGS3 device from the computer.
  3. Force restarts your device.
  4. Reinstall the suitable USB drivers for your SGS3 device on your computer.
  5. Open ODIN app once again.
  6. Reconnect your S3 device to the PC using its USB cord.
  7. Repeat the installation update process from the beginning.

That’s it. Now your Samsung Galaxy S3 device has been updated to the latest Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean build XXEMD2 firmware update.

Now, the last thing you should to do is that: verify the firmware version of your Android OS on your phone, to do that follow the path: Settings > About phone and note down version of your firmware.
