How To Upgrade The Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F to Android 5.0 Lollipop UK Firmware

The new Android 5.0 Lollipop update is now available for Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F devices in the UK. Now,  we will teach you how to manually launch this update in your smarthone. We will show you through a step by step instruction guide.

The new release has been rolled out in the UK, but the users should be able to flash it on any Samsung Galaxy S5 device (International Variant Model number G900F). Before starting the installation process of this new firmware, you need to follow some prerequisites as given below.

  • This is released only for the Samsung Galaxy S5 device. So, verify the model number of your Android based device under Settings> About Phone— and make sure that SM-G900F model version is listed.
  • Download and install the suitable USB drivers on your PC. Here is the download link.
  • Now, navigate to the Developer Options menu and enable the USB Debugging mode. This will allow you to make a connection between the device and your PC.
  • If the Developer Option menu doesn’t appear under the Settings menu, you should tap seven times on the Build Number text in the Developer Options menu.
  • Uninstall or temporarily disable the security programs such as antivirus, antimalware, and firewalls applications on your PC.

Note: In case the device runs on a rooted ROM, once a stock firmware is applied the root access will be revoked.

  • In case your device is running under a custom ROM, you’ll need to remove all your data stored into device’s system partition  to install the new Android 5.0 Lollipop update.
  • You can install the new stock Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware on any custom ROMs, but you will require to apply  an extra “factory reset” step once the flashing process is done.
  • If the Samsung Galaxy S5 device is running under a stock firmware, the flashing process of this new official update will not affect the smartphone’s storage in any way.
  • If you want to keep the back-up your data from flashed applications, text messages, SMS or any other type of data, you will need to use suitable applications from Google Play Store, such as Helium tool for Android.
  • Ensure that the device’s battery charge level is at least more that 65% power.

How to install the new Android 5.0 Lollipop G900FXXU1BOA3 UK update for any Samsung Galaxy S5 G900F:

  1. In your PC, download and save the new Android 5.0 Lollipop G900FXXU1BOA3 firmware zip file in your PC from here. (you’ll need a SamMobile account to download the file).
  2. Once the download process is done, extract it on your PC to get a ‘.tar.md5  extension file.
  3. Download the ODIN 3.09 file from here,  save it on your PC, and then extract its on your PC.
  4. Turn off the device.
  5. Boot the Samsung Galaxy S5 device in the Download Mode.
  6. Open the ODIN app on your PC.
  7. Next, connect the SGS5 device to your PC through the USB cable.
  8. When the connection is done, the ODIN app will detect your device, and you can continue the installation process.
  9.  If the SGS5 device is not detected by the PC, you should reinstall the Samsung Galaxy USB drivers.
  10. From the ODIN app interface, click on ‘AP’ Odin button.
  11. Browse for the extracted G900FXXU1BOA3 tar.md5 file, and now load it in the ODIN software.
  12. From ODIN ensure that the ‘Re-Partition’ option is disabled, and do not proceed any other default ODIN settings.
  13. From ODIN app, press START button to begin the installation process of the new Android 5.0 G900FXXU1BOA3 tar.md5 file on your Galaxy S5 device.
  14. When the new stock firmware is installed on your device, it gets rebooted automatically, wait  until the new files are completely loaded.
  15. Do not press any other button until the reboot is not complete.
  16. Next, when the Home page appears you need to use your usual Login details in order to take control over the device. Congratulations, you’ve successfully installed the new Android 5.0 Lollipop firmware on your Samsung Galaxy S5 device.

Troubleshooting:

    • If the ODIN app fails to complete the flashing process, the user should repeat the entire steps.
    • If the ODIN app says the flashing process is complete, but the device is entering into boot loop and it’s not able to enter into normal mode, you should try for the ‘factory reset’ process.

Note: This ‘Factory reset’ need to be done for devices previously installed a custom ROM OS.

To apply the ‘Factory reset’ step, you need to boot the Samsung Galaxy S5 device into Recovery mode, and select the ‘wipe data/ factory reset’, confirm the process. Now go back to the  main menu of the device’s recovery mode and select the reboot system now.
