Available now in Developer Preview version, Android L is distinguished by the introduction of a new interface concept called Material Design, where the buttons and menu selections are highlighted three-dimensionally using shadows generated in real time and elevation effects.
In addition, major sections have been redesigned like the call menu and the notification list, accessible now also from the lock screen.
Other optimizations less visible will improve the performance of Android applications.

According to HTC’s official blog, users of One series smartphones namely M8 and the M7 from last year will be able to enjoy the new Android version within 90 days after Google will provide to the company the final version of the software.
