Those who downloaded and installed the new firmware on their Galaxy Note 8.0 device and want to root it, they can follow this step by step guide by using the CF-Root tool from a XDA senior member named Chainfire.
When you obtain the root rights on your device, you’ll be able to install the latest custom ROMs available for your device, to add custom applications and to obtain optimum performance.

Pre-requisites and guidelines required before to start the root process:
- Download and install the suitable USB Drivers for Galaxy Note 8.0 GT-N5100 on the desktop.
- Now, go to your device and enable the USB Debugging Mode from Settings>Developer Options.
- Ensure that you have the backup of all of your important data before starting the root installation.
- Be sure that the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 device is factory unlocked and is not locked to any specific carrier.
- The device’s battery should have more than 80 % power level.
- This guide is compatible only with Samsung Galaxy Note 8 model number N5100. Do not use the same for any other variant, this might brick the device.
- Verify the model number of Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 from Settings>About Phone.
How to root the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 (N5100) running on all Android 4.4.2 Kitkat Firmware
- First, download CF-Auto-Root for Galaxy Note 8.0 GT-N5100 software and save it in your PC.
- Second, download Odin v3.09 application and save it in your PC.
- Now, extract the CF-Auto-Root archive on your PC using a suitable application such as 7-Zip or WinZip application.
- Turn off the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 device.
- Boot it into Download Mode by pressing the Volume Down, Home and Power buttons at the same time until a warning triangle appears on the display, now tap Volume UP button to confirm the Download Mode.
- Open the ODIN application such as Administrator.
- Now, by using the USB cable connect the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 to the PC while the device is still into Download Mode.
- Wait until the ODIN application detects the device and ID:COM box will display the blue color and the corresponding COM port number.
- When the Note 8.0 device is detected by ODIN the “Added” message appears on the display.
- In the ODIN application, press the AP button, and select the CF-Auto-Root-kona3g-kona3gxx-gtn5100.tar.md5 file.
- Now, from the ODIN app’s interface, ensure that the Auto Reboot and the F. Reset Time options are selected, while the Re-partition option is unchecked.
Make sure that each of the steps are properly followed, click Start button in ODIN. - Now, wait for the root process to be completed.
- Once the root process is completed, the device will take a reboot, and the “PASS” message with a green background will be displayed in the ODIN app’s interface.
- Disconnect the device from PC by removing the USB cord.
Congratulation, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0 N5100 device is now rooted on Android 4.4.2 KitKat official firmware.
