Pre-requisites:

  • Please don’t try to install this firmware on any other S4 device or in other Android devices.
  • The S4 I9500 smartphone has to be a factory unlocked device.
  • If your device is a rooted device, then the root access will be revoked.
  • If your device is running a custom Recovery tool such CWM OR TWRP  running on your S4 smartphone , this will be erased.
  • In case,  your device is rooted, the data from the system file partition will be deleted.
  • Download and install the suitable USB drivers for your device on your PC. If you don’t have USB drives, you can download them from here,.
  • The drivers are needed to establish the connection between the Android device and the computer where we will run the ODIN app
  • From your smartphone’s Developer Option menu, you need to make sure that the USB Debugging option is enabled.
  • In case this menu is hidden, then all you need to do to make it to appear is that open Settings, after that go to  About Phone option and now press 7 times on the ‘Build Number’ area.
  • Make sure that the Antivirus, Firewall, Samsung KIES and any security tools are uninstalled or deactivated.
  • Make sure that at least 80 percent battery is left in the phone.

How to manually  install Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean UBUAMDE OTA Update on Samsung Galaxy S4 I9500

  1. Download the Android 4.2.2 UBUAMDE zip file from HERE and save it in your PC.
  2. Extract the downloaded zip archive to a single folder on the PC. There you have to verify to get a file I9500UBUAMDE_I9500UUBAMDE_COO file that has .tar.md5 extension. Now you don’t do any other extraction foe the files.
  3. Download and install (extract its content into a single folder) the Odin 3.07 from HERE.
  4. Now, Power off your S4 device completely.
  5. Next, boot the Android device into Download Mode.
  6. Open the ODIN app on your PC.
  7. Connect your S4 device to computer with the help of its original USB Data cable.
  8. ODIN will say ‘Added!!’ message, if not you should try other USB port or to reinstall the proper USB drivers again, and after that move to the next step.
  9. Now, on the ODIN app click on ‘PDA’ button.
  10. Browse and load the I9500UBUAMDE_I9500UUBAMDE_COO tar.md5 file into ODIN app.

Important: Make sure that in ODIN interface Re-Partition option is not enabled. If this option was enabled you must disable it. Don’t perform other additional settings and don’t change other default ODIN settings.

  1. When you are ready to begin the installation process, press the START button on the ODIN app. Confirm for this action.
  2. Now, you need to wait around 8 minutes to be complete the process.
  3. At the end of the flashing process, the S4 smartphone will take an automatically reboot
  4. Disconnect the device from PC by removing its USB cord.
  5. Verify if this latest update is running on your S4 device. To do that go to About Phone section,  see that whether I9500UBUAMDE firmware is displayed.

 Troubleshooting:

  • In case ODIN gets fail or froze its interface, then you have to do:
  1. Disconnect the device from the PC.
  2. Power off your S4 device.
  3. Remove its battery and wait 5 seconds, after that reinsert the battery in its location.
  4. Repeat the entire step by step tutorial from beginning and for this time make sure that you’ll not skip any step.
  •  If ODIN app display the ‘PASS’ message, but the smartphone don’t past t the Samsung logo boot animation, then you have to do:
  1. Force your device to boot in Recovery mode, and from there do a factory reset. This action will delete all content from your S4 Android device.
  2.  Now, force the Samsung Galaxy S4 device to boot into its normal mode with new firmware on it, to do that follow the next steps:
  3. First, power off your S4 device.
  4. Second, boot the device into Recovery mode. For entering the device into Recovery mode press and keep holding the Volume Up + Home  + Power buttons at the same time.
  5.   Release the combination of previous buttons when the Recovery Mode menu is displayed.
  6. From the Recovery Mode menu select ‘wipe data/ factory reset’ option, and after that confirm the data wipe.
  7. After the wipe process is complete, return to the main Recovery Mode menu and from there select ‘reboot system now’.
