How To Install The New CM 11 Milestone 4.4.2 Kitkat Custom ROM On Samsung Galaxy S2 Device

The Cyanogen Mod team released a new version of CM, named 4M based on the Android 4.4.2 Android platform. The new release is now available for Samsung Galaxy S2 devices.

 

In this step by step process, we will show you how to install the CM11 Milestone 4 KitKat custom ROM on Samsung Galaxy S2 device.

This custom ROM has been developed by CM team and it is based on the AOSP (Android 4.4.2 KitKat) firmware. For more information you can read CyanogenMod web blog.

Prerequisites:

  • This guide is provided for Samsung Galaxy S2 model Number I9100 Exynos model.
  • Do not try to use this guide for any other smartphone.
  • It works for rooted Galaxy S2 devices.
  • The device needs to have the latest CWM or TWRP recovery image installed on it. (This guide use CWM recovery only).
  • Create a backup all data from the internal device’s memory. Get a full Nandroid backup for your actual ROM. A Factory reset phone is required during the step by step guide.
  • The Nandroid backup represents a restore point for the actual installed ROM, and can be used if you want to restore. If the device won’t boot into normal mode after you installed the new custom ROM.
  • When a Factory Reset action is required, a clean installation of the CM 11 M4 KitKat firmware will be performed.
  • If the device has an Older CM 11 Nightly ROM, you can skip the factory reset action.
  • If you’ll skip the Factory Reset action, the device doesn’t boot into normal mode with the new custom ROM installed on it, you need to repeat the step by step guide again without skipping the factory reset.
  • Ensure that the device’s battery power level is more than 65 %, so that it is not switched  off in the middle of the flashing process.

How To Install the latest CM 11 M4 Snapshot KitKat 4.4.2 custom ROM for Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100:

  1. First, download the custom ROM file from here.
  2. Secondly, download the Gapps for Android 4.4.2 custom ROMs.
  3. Now, connect the device to the PC, and copy/paste the both zip files to the device’s internal memory.
  4. Disconnect the smartphone from PC.
  5. Do not unzip the downloaded files.
  6. Turn off the device.
  7. Boot it into CWM Recovery Mode. You can learn how to do this from here.
  8. Now, get a full NANDROID Backup for the existent ROM that is already flashed on S2 device. For getting this select “backup and restore” rename the file and then confirm the process.
  9. Now, apply the Factory Reset by selecting the “wipe data/ factory reset” and confirm the process.
  10. Now, you can install the new CyanogenMode 11 Snapshoot M4 custom ROM by selecting the “install zip from sdcard” and then “choose zip from sdcard”.
  11. Find the copied ROM file and confirm the flashing process.
  12. Now, install the Gapps zip file in the same manner as the above step.
  13. When all the copied files are installed, you can return to  main CWM Recovery menu.
  14. Now, reboot the S2 device into normal mode.
  15. Note: the first boot process under the new CM11 build will take more time than normal , you shouldn’t press any buttons until the home screen appears.
  16. Now, join the CyanogenMod or Google profile to get control over your Samsung Galaxy S2 device.
