WhatsApp is undoubtedly the most popular chat tools available today that allows people to chat with people right through their mobiles. But what if you’ve decided to buy a new device and want to transfer your WhatsApp messages from your old device to new one. In this article, you will get to know how you can do that without facing any difficulty.
Google Drive backup and restore
The latest versions of WhatsApp come with automatic Google Drive backups that make it tremendously easy to transfer your WhatsApp chat history to newer devices.
First just tap the three dots on the top left corner of the screen and go to Settings-> Chats and calls-> Chat backup.
Now you can choose to back up the data manually or set it on automatic mode. When you reinstall WhatsApp on your new device, you can easily choose to recover chats and multimedia by using Google Drive.
Manually backing up chats and restoring them
If you haven’t received the latest Google Drive backup update yet, you can still choose to transfer your old chats to a new device. Let’s see how.
Go the Settings menu of WhatsApp, tap on Chats and Calls and then tap Chat backup.
Now connect your smartphone to your PC using a USB cable. Move to the internal memory of the device to the folder WhatsApp / Database. Here you will find backup files with names like this “msgstore-2013-05-29.db.crypt”.Copy the file with the latest creation date and paste it to your desktop.
Install WhatsApp on your new device but don’t run the app.
Connect your new device to the PC using USB cable. As you’ve already downloaded WhatsApp onto your new device, the folder WhatsApp / Databases should be right there. If not, you can choose to create a new Databases folder in the WhatsApp folder.
Copy your WhatsApp conversation backup file into this folder.
Now runWhatsApp on your new phone and go through the verification process. You will receive a notification that a message backup was found. Just choose Restore, and it’s done. After some time, all your messages would start appearing on your new device.
Transferring WhatsApp chats from iPhone to Android
To do this, you would need a third-party transfer tool as it is not possible to transfer chats from iOS to Android or vice versa. iPhone users can choose to transfer old message to their new iPhone in a similar manner the way Google Drive backup has been used to help Android users for the same purpose.
