Root the Samsung Galaxy S2 on Official Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XWLSN Firmware

Do you know how to root the Samsung Galaxy S2 devices? Read this article to know the rooting process of the device with Official Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XWLSN Firmware.

This step-by-step root procedure can be used and applied only for the Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100 model number, which have installed and running an official Android 4.1.2 XWLSN firmware.

The rooting process, which we will use in this guide is provided by a developer from Xda-developers and with this guide we want to thank for this great work.

Pre-requisites and Guidelines:

  • The instructions and this guide can be applied only for the Samsung Galaxy S2 model number I9100 on stock Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XWLSN firmware, so don’t try to apply the same for any other similar device.
  • Apply this guide only if you want to gain the root access over your S2 device’ internal system.
  • When you’re applying the root rights on your device the actual security and factory restrictions will be removed, and you’ll be able to flash the new application that requires the root access or you can customize your device and to optimize the same. On the other hand, the root access gives you the possibility to install a custom recovery image, and after that you’ll be able to install the new custom ROMs that are available for your S2 device.
  • The rooting process will make your warranty become void. In this case, if something goes wrong, all the risks are withe. That’s the reason; you have to be extremely careful and to know exactly what you’re doing with your Smartphone. Also if you want to restore your device’ warranty, you can easily downgrade to stock ROM or to apply a un-root procedure that are available for your device.
  • Back-up all your Galaxy S2 data if you want to be sure, you won’t lose any data if something doesn’t work well as expected and your device won’t be required to boot after you apply the root process. For saving the personal data you can save the SMS, call logs, internet settings, the current market applications that are running in your device, EFS, sync your contacts with your Gmail account and save all your personal data that you’re considering are important for you. You can use those methods that you’re considering is safe for you or to search the back-up and restore apps that are available for free on Google Play store.
  • For this root method, you’ll need to have admin access to a Windows based PC or a notebook, an S2 device and its original USB cord.
  • Deactivate or uninstall the security programs like Antivirus and firewall that are running in both devices, PC and S2 Smartphone. These programs can interfere with the root process.
  • Verify your device’ power level. There must be more than 65% power left to complete this process.
  • Enable the USB debugging option, do that from the “Settings -> Applications -> Development -> USB debugging” path.
  • Download and install the Samsung KIES app on your PC, and install the Samsung Galaxy S2 drivers.
  • All these instructions and information listed here are only for the educational and instructional purpose, so you can’t blame us or hold us liable if something wrong happens with your device. Application of this guide is your decision and represents your risk.

I think these are all the steps that you need to follow and to know before moving at the next section of the rooting process.

How to Root Samsung Galaxy S2 on Official Jelly Bean 4.1.2 XWLSN firmware:

  1. Download the root package from here, save it in your PC and extract its content on the PC desktop.
  2. Download the ODIN app from here, save it in your PC, and then extract its content on the Desktop.
  3. Open Odin app on your PC.
  4. Be sure, you don’t modify the default ODIN settings and the partition option shouldn’t be enabled.
  5.  Now, turn off your Samsung Galaxy S2 device.
  6. Boot your S2 device into the Download mode. To do that press the Power, Volume Down and Home buttons simultaneously and keep them pressed until the Download mode is displayed and then release the buttons.
  7. Connect your S2 device to the PC using the original USB cable.
  8. When you connect your device to the computer, the ODIN software should notify you with the ID: COM in a yellow or blue color and an “added” message will be displayed. That is necessarily for beginning the rooting process. In the other case,  you need to close the ODIN app, disconnect your S2 device, reinstall its proper USB drivers on your PC and repeat the present guide from the beginning.
  9. If everything is working well, like I explained, in that case, from the Odin app select the “PDA” option.
  10. Browse and pick the root file from the extracted fodder on your PC desktop.
  11. When you’re ready to begin the rooting process, click on the “Start” button from the ODIN app.
  12. Now, your S2 device will be rooted; when the ODIN will end, the process will display a “pass” message.
  13. After the rooting process is entirely done, you can disconnect the USB cable and reboot your device.
  14. The first boot will take a little bit more time, but that’s normal.

That’s all you need to do in order to root your Samsung Galaxy S2 on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean XWLSN firmware.

Instead of a normal boot, if you get a boot loop at the end of the rooting process, in that case you need to do the following steps:

  • Now, from the Recovery Mode menu do a wipe. Then Select “wipe data factory reset” and “wipe cache partition” and confirm your action.
  • Now return to the main Recovery Mode menu with “+++go back+++” option.
  • From the main Recovery Mode menu select “reboot system now” option, after that your smart-phone will boot into the normal mode.

If, during the root procedure, you received an error or ODIN might get stuck, in that situation you have to follow the following steps:

  •  First, you have to disconnect the smartphone from the PC by removing its USB cable.
  • Force a restart for your S2 device.
  • Now, close the ODIN app on your PC.
  • Reinstall the drivers compatible for your S2 device using the Samsung KIES app.
  • After you successfully reinstalled the drivers, repeat the root procedure from the start.
