Update and Root Galaxy S4 I9505 (Snapdragon 600 variant) with Android 4.2.2 XXUAME2 Jelly Bean Official Update

Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 Snapdragon 600 model has received the latest Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update (XXUAME2) by OTA directly. This new update solves some bugs and improves the performance for the S4 I9505 Snapdragon variant. The XXUAME2 version is now available for download using KIES tool from Samsung for some European and Asian countries. Those who have not received the update can get it manually following the method described in the article.

Pre-requisites:

The instructions listed here and information works only with this device. Do not try to use the same for any other device. To be sure about the device model you need to verify this on the Settings > About Phone option.
Enable the USB Debugging mode on your smartphone, to make possible connection between the PC and the Android device. To do that you need to navigate to Settings > Developer Options for Android 4.0 devices.
Charge the battery to more than the 85% level to prevent a power off during update flashing.
Download and install the suitable USB drivers for your device on PC, you can use this link to download Samunsg Galaxy S4 I9505 USB drivers.
This guide works only for factory unlocked devices and not locked to any specific carrier.
We will use the ODIN app designed by Samsung and it is compatible only with Windows OS.
In case, you get a “MD5 hash value is invalid” error message on your device display, you will need to download the firmware file once again.
We strongly recommend you to take the backup of all of your important data stored in your device’s internal memory as a precaution. This is a manual procedure and it may also go wrong in rare cases.

How to Install Official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean XXUAME2 Jelly firmware on Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 device

Download and install the ODIN v3.07.
Now, extract the firmware archive zip file to get the firmware file (.tar) in the folder after you have extracted the downloaded file.
Extract the Odin archive and be sure you have the ODIN3 V3.07.exe file.
Next, power off the S4 device and wait for its off vibration after 5 or 6 seconds.
Now, boot the S4 smartphone into Download Mode. To do that you need to press and keep holding in the same time the next combination of buttons: by Volume Down + Home + Power until you’ll receive a “Warning!” Message on the device display. When this message is displayed hit Volume Up button to confirm the Download mode menu.
Now, open the Odin3 v3.07.exe file as an Administrator
While your smartphone is into Download Mode, connect it to PC using the USB cord.
Now just look in ODIN interface and be sure the ID: COM zone will be colored in Yellow or Blue with a COM port number displayed.
Open the extracted XXUAME2 downloaded file folder to choose the next files using the next buttons from ODIN interface:
- Click the ‘PDA’ button and click the .tar file. .
- Click the ‘Phone’ button from ODIN and browse and choose the file that contains ‘modem’. .
- Click the ‘CSC’ button and browse and choose the file that contains ‘CSC’.
- Click the ‘PIT’ button, browse and click the .pit file, if this exists in the extracted folder.
Important: Make sure that in ODIN app the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options are selected.
Select the Re-Partition checkbox only if a .pit file is loaded and will be used. Otherwise, leaves the Re-Partition checkbox unchecked.
Now, when you are ready to begin the flashing process, click the START button in ODIN app tool, the installation of the new firmware will start immediately.
Wait until the ODIN successfully completes the installation of the new firmware.
The smartphone, at the end of the process takes an automatic reboot.
After the reboot, disconnect the USB cable from PC.

Congratulations, your Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505 (SnapDragon 600) has been successfully updated with the official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean XXUAME2 firmware.

For verifying the firmware version, you should go to Settings > About Phone.

How to Root Official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean XXUAME2 Firmware on Samsung Galaxy S4 I9505

Download the CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gtI9505.zip tool for latest I9505XXUAME2 firmware update.
Download the Odin v3.07.
Now, extract the downloaded file (CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gtI9505.zip) to get the CF-Auto-Root-m0-m0xx-gtI9505.tar.md5 file inside the extracted folder.
Now extract and install the Odin app.
Power off the Galaxy S4 I9505 device. .
Boot it into Download Mode, to do that you need to press and keep holding the Volume Down + Power + Home buttons simultaneously.
A “warning!” message will be displayed, now press the Volume up button to confirm the Download Mode menu.
Open Odin app (Odin3 v3.07.exe) with the Administrator rights.
Now, connect the Smartphone to the PC using the original USB cord.
Verify if the connection is done via ODIN, the ID:COM box will be colored in yellow or green together with the COM port no.
Now, on the ODIN app click the PDA button and browse and load the CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505.tar.md5 file.
Important: In ODIN app, enable the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options; be sure the check-boxes are selected. Now, when you are ready to begin the rooting process; press START button in ODIN app.
Wait until the ODIN app roots your device, once the rooting process is done, the S4 smartphone takes an automatic reboot. The ODIN app displays a green PASS notification
Disconnect the phone from PC by removing the USB cable.
