Now a new Android 4.4.3 KitKat OTA update named KTU84P firmware is available for Nexus devices such as Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 10, Nexus 7 2012 and 2012 models.

The new Android update comes with a number of security fixes bugs including the OpenSSL bug.

An XDA member EI Daddy has released and shared with us the new KTU84P OTA download link for Nexus 5 device.

The main advantage of this step by step guide is that, the user will not have to unlock the bootloader and now can directly flash the new OTA firmware by using the ADB Sideload mode.

To flash the new OTA update, the Nexus 5 device should be running under an official (stock) firmware version.

Pre-requisites:

  • Before starting to install the new official OTA update, be sure of that you have saved all your data from your tablet.

  • Next, enable the USB Debugging Mode on the device. Navigate to the Settings>>Developer option and tap on the USB Debugging option.
  • Ensure that the Nexus device’s battery has more than 85 % power left, otherwise the device can take a power off during the installation process.
  • The new update (Android 4.4.4 KTU84P KitKat OTA update is fully compatible only with Nexus 5 device. As installing this update on any other incorrect variant of the device might brick the device. You can verify the model number of the Nexus 5 device from the next path: Settings>> About phone>> Model number.
  • The device should be running under the official Android 4.4.2 KitKat firmware.

How to flash the Android 4.4.4 KTU84P KitKat OTA firmware on Nexus 5 device:

  • Download the KTU84P Android 4.4.4 OTA update for Nexus 5 device to the PC from here .
  • Move the download OTA zip file in the platform-tools folder in Android SDK directory.
  • Open the command window inside the platform tools folder (Press Shift and then right-click using the mouse and then select Open Command Prompt here option.
  • Connect the Nexus 5 device to the PC by using the USB cable.
  • Type the next command and then press Enter:

adb reboot bootloader

  • The device should now boot into Bootloader mode. For that use the Volume keys then navigate to the Recovery mode and then select it by using the Power button.
  • When the Android icon together with a red exclamation mark appears you need to press and hold the Power button and then press Volume Up button.
  • Now, the Nexus 5 device should boot to the Recovery Mode menu.
  • Use the Volume Down button and then scroll down to apply the update from ADB option and after that press the Power button to make the selection.
  • Now, Open the Command Window once more and then type the next command followed by the name of the downloaded OTA file.

  • The installation of the OTA update should start.
  • Once the flashing process is done, you need to select the reboot system now option from the main recovery menu and the device will take a reboot.

The Nexus 5 device should now be update with the new Android 4.4.4 OTA firmware (KTU84P) firmware. You can verify the new update from the next path: Settings>> About phone.
