How To Download Install Android Nougat 7.1 OTA

Google had announced to launch Android Nougat on September 4 along with its Pixel range. It has decided to create a developer preview of Android 7.1 for the Nexus lineup of phones which has been discontinued.  So Android users can obtain the new release by downloading the SDK and tools. This has been a tradition that Google often announces the next Android preview in I/O developer conference which is organized during May month of the year.

This time Google has broken the tradition by making preview available early so that it could test Android 7.0 before it is launched.

This is another time that Google will be using a developer preview for Android 7.1 so that the owners of Nexus could test the latest Google stuff Nougat 7.1 before it is finally launched. There are two different ways to launch to download and install the latest OS version in your mobile if your phone qualifies for it. First one to do that, following the traditional developer route and other one is through Android Beta Program route.

There are two different routes for downloading and installing the latest OS version in your mobile if your phone is eligible for the same. One is traditional developer route and the other is super-friendly Android Beta Program route. Here is how you can do it.

Developer Preview

Developer preview is a ‘work-in-progress’ that is released to developers for testing before rolling out the final update. The logic behind this is to remove problems with specific devices and enable developers to update apps to support 7.1’ features. It is to be noted that Nexus line pones such as Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P and Pixel C will get the update. After the initial phase, additional devices will be added to programme in November that includes Nexus 6 smartphones, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player.

Android Beta Program

Googles’s Android Beta program will allow anyone to update their Android device for developer’s preview and get ongoing over-the-air updates. This is similar to Microsoft’s Windows Insider Program.

How to do it

  • Go to com/betato sign-up in the Android Beta Program.
  • Sign-in from your Google account and check whether your device is listed on the next page or not, if its so enroll in the Beta program and updates will arrive in seconds to your device.
  • If you have already used the program in Android Beta in the past, you will automatically get the update.

While doing so don’t forget to get the backup of important data files. Flashing additional Android Naugat will cause more data loss and you will not also get automatic OTA updates.
