Moto G Google Play Edition To Receive Android 4.4.4 Update

Moto G GPE

Most of Motorola Moto X, Moto G and Moto E devices received the Android 4.4.3 KitKat update.
Shortly after the release of Android 4.4.3 for Moto G U.S., announced that the update for the European specimens had been withdrawn so that they could be directly updated to Android 4.4.4, released by Google in the meantime.

The update is in the pipeline, considering that it was released in the last few hours for Moto G Google Play Edition version, weighs 161.6 MB and introduces the latest version of Android identified as firmware build number KTU84P, and is recommended that you use a stable WiFi connection network while downloading it to avoid data charges.

As all incremental updates, the Android 4.4.4 KitKat update is pushed over the air to Moto G GPE devices, and given the fact that is pushed out in stages not all Moto G owners will be able to download and install it at once. So if you own a Moto G GPE device you will be notified when it is available for your device with a system message in the notification area. All you need to do is tap on the notification message, choose download and wait until the download completes, then select install.

In case your device fails to prompt you, you can perform a manual check by going to Settings->About phone->Software updates->Check now.
Another option is for you to flash the new Android 4.4.4 update manually, download the OTA zip file, then flash it to your Moto G GPE using the “adb sideload” command or flash it like any other ZIP file from your custom recovery.
Remember that the new firmware is identified as build number KTU84P and that the manual flash only works if you are running the build version KOT49H.

Android 4.4.4 KitKat should bring enhanced performance, as well as various security and stability improvements and bug fixes.
At this point, we expect that the update for the European Moto G devices arrive within a few weeks and no later than the end of July.
