Root, Unlock, install CWM and TWRP Recovery

HTC ONE recently has received Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware update. The new Android 4.2.2 software upgrade comes with new features and capabilities having Sense 5 UI. We are going to teach you to root HTC One device and you will also learn how to install a custom recovery image such as CWM or TWRP recovery image.

Before starting our step by step guides you need to follow some prerequisites which are necessary to be followed first:

  • First, you need do download and install the suitable USB drivers for HTC One, these USB drivers are necessary to transfer flashing files between the PC and HTC One device.
  • Second, make sure that the USB Debugging Mode on the smartphone is enable, for doing that, please navigate on the following path Menu>> Settings>> Applications and from here tap on Development option and there check USB Debugging Mode to be enable.
  • Take the backup of all your data form internal memory of the device.
  • Verify and make sure that device’s battery has more than 80 % of power left in the battery.
  • All instructions and information listed here work only on HTC ON M7.
  • This root method will void the device’s warranty, in case you want to restore your warranty, you should downgrade by stock or install an officially firmware released by HTC.

How to unlock HTC One

  1. First, navigate to HTCDEV, here create a new account
  2. Second, download the adb/fastboot  (adb_fastboot_drivers.zip) files to the PC.
  3. Now, create a new folder on the PC on the C:/ drive and rename it fastboot.
  4. Extract the downloaded adb fastboot zip file into the new folder.
  5. From the http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/  website page select. All Other Supported Models and after that click on Begin Unlock Bootloader
  6. Now, click yes on both boxes and go next
  7. Power off the HTC One device by pressing and keep holding Power button around 10-12 seconds
  8. From the HTC device press and keep holding the Volume Down and Power buttons at the same time for turning on the HTC ONE smartphone.
  9. Now select Fastboot using the Volume Up/Down button and after that confirm with the Power button.
  10. Connect the HTC ONE smartphone to the PC with using its USB cable.
  11. Open a CMD (Command Prompt) on the PC. (Click Start > type Run> type CMD in the box and press Enter).
  12. Now, from CMD window change directory to navigate on the created folder where the fastboot files were copied previously for doing that type: cd c:facstboot
  13.  Next: Type the following command line in the CMD (command prompt) window:fastboot oem get_identifier_token
  14. Now, select and copy text
  15. Next Paste the identifier token into the box and click submit.
  16.  Go to the mail address that you subscribe with it on the HTCDev website
  17. Open the mail from HTCDev with a link inside of the mail
  18.  Unlock_code.bin attached at the email message.
  19. Download the attached Unlock_code.bin from the email message and save it in the PC
  20. Now, on the command prompt window, type the following command line:fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin
  21. Next look on the display of the HTC One device, it will be changed and now press Volume Up to accept and Power button to confirm.

If you followed all steps exactly, the bootloader for the HTC One should be unlocked

How to install ClockworkMod/TWRP recovery on HTC One device

  1. First, Download Android SDK files and save it in your PC.
  2. Second, Download recovery CWM recovery v6.0.3.2 or from here, or TWRP recovery from here.
  3. For those who are using the Android SDK directory, they need to move the CWM or TWRP Recovery file to platform-tools folder.      
  4. Now, go on the start>run> cmd and enter and Open the Command Prompt (or press Shift + Right click on a white area on the folder where you have copied the Recovery file).
  5. Now, navigate to the folder where the Recovery file is saved using CMD window (or open a Command Prompt using Shift Right click at the correct folder where the Recovery file has copied previously).
  6. On the CMD window with the cursor in the correct path type the following command:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img   

That’s all now the custom CWM or TWRP recovery tool has been flashed on  the HTC One device. Now below we will list the step by step guide to root the HTC One device, make sure you don’t skip any of them.

How to root HTC One on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware.

  1. Firstly, download SuperSU tool or SuperUser from the link.
  2. Secondly, connect the HTC One device to the PC using USB cord.
  3. Move with copy/paste the downloaded root zip file to the HTC One smartphone internal or external memory.
  4. Now, disconnect the HTC One device from the PC.
  5. Power off the HTC One device.
  6. Now, boot it into Bootloader Mode by pressing and keep holding the Volume Down and Power buttons in the same time.
  7. Next, select Recovery using Volume Up or Volume Down button and confirm with Power button.
  8. From Recovery Mode Menu, select install zip from sdcard  and after that selectchoose zip from sdcard, browse the root zip file which previously save it in the memory of the HTC One. Select the root file using Power button and on the next screen confirm its installation with Yes.
  9. Now, the flashing process should start, and it would take a few minutes to be done.
  10. After the flashing process is done, return in the main Recovery Mode Menu.
  11. From the main Recovery Mode Menu select reboot system now
  12. Now, wait to HTC One boots up and that’s it.

Verify if the HTC One device is an unlocked, rooted and with a custom Recovery (CWM or TWRP recovery tool) installed on it.
