Update Galaxy S3 LTE with Android 4.1.2 firwware

OTA new official Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update named XXBME3 has been rolled out for  Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE GT-I9305 devices.

This new update is based on the Android 4.1.2 and has been pushed out in some countries as France and Poland.

The new release has been rolled out by OTA and users can download and install the official update using Samsung KIES tool or via OTA automatic notification. If  you have not  received this automatic notification, you can verify the software from Settings>> About phone>> Software Update in your S3 LTE device.

As you know not all of the S3 LTE users receive this latest update, and if they don’t want to wait until this firmware is available, they can learn how to manually update the new XXBME3 firmware.

The new Android 4.1.2 XXBME3 Jelly Bean firmware is unbranded and not mobile carrier-branded, it can be flashed on any unlocked version of Samsung Galaxy S3 I9305 devices.

Pre-requisites:

  • First, download and install the appropriate USB Driversfor Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE model, this driver helps you connect the device with PC.

  • From Menu> Settings> Applications>Developmentoption menu enable USB Debugging Mode by checking.
  • Take the data backup of the phone. If the S3 LTE device is installed on it such as CWM orTWARP, you can get the full Nandroid backup.
  • Charge the device to have more than 80 % power left in its battery.
  • The Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE device should be factory unlocked (not locked to any particular mobile carrier).
  • Once the official firmware is installed on the phone will lose custom ROM, custom recovery toll, and the root rights.

The new Android 4.1.2 XXBME3 Jelly Bean update works only on Samsung Galaxy S3 GT-I9305 devices, so knowing that do not use the same for any other incorrect device, you can easily brick it.

 How to Flash Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean on Galaxy S3 GT-I9305 LTE device.

  • First, download the official XXBME3 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean file from here: XXBME3 Android 4.1.2 for France,XXBME3 for Poland PLUSXXBME3 for Luxembourg.
  • Now, extract the downloaded zip file to obtain a .tar.md5 file and some other files.
  • Download ODIN 3.07, save it, extract the same to obtain ODIN3 V3.07.exe file plus some additional files.
  • Turn off the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE device completely.
  • Boot it intoDownload Mode (press and keep holding the Volume Down button, Home and Power buttons simultaneously until a construction Android logo appears on the Smartphone display, press the Volume Up button to enter into Download Mode menu.
  • Open and runODIN3 v3.07.exe file as an Administrator from your PC.
  • Now, connect the S3 device to PC via USB cable while the device is in Download Mode.
  • After some time,  ODIN app will detect the smartphone and will display anAdded message, also in the ODIN will be colored the ID:COM box with blue color.
  • Note: If in ODIN doesn’t appearADDED message, then change the USB port of the PC, and reinstall USB drivers.
  • Next, select the following files fromI9305XXBME3 folder in order to flash them on the S3 LTE device:
  • From ODIN clickPDA button and select .md5 file.
  • From ODIN clickPhone button, select the file that contains MODEM in its name, and ignore this step if there isn’t a file like this.
  • From ODIN clickCSC button, select the file that contain CSC in its name, ignore this step if there isn’t a file like this.
  • From ODIN click the PITbutton and select the .pit file., Ignore this step if such file does not exist.

Important: In ODIN app, verify Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time checkboxes are selected. Uncheck the Re-Partition option (* select this option only when a .pit file is being used and selected from above).

  • Verify again if all the steps are correctly completed.
  • Press the START button in ODIN app.

Now the flashing process should start, and you need to wait until the installation process is completed.

 When the flashing process is complete, the S3 LTE device will get an automatic reboot and the ODIN app will display an PASS message with a green background in its interface in the extreme left at very top area.

Now, disconnect the device from PC by removing the USB cable.

Congratulation, now the Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE have been updated with the latest official XXBME3 Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean firmware.

Verify the version of new firmware from: Settings>> About phone>> Android & Baseband Version

Troubleshooting:

If the Samsung Galaxy S3 device gets stuck,  Boot it in recovery mode once again (press and keep holding the Home, Power and Volume UP buttons simultaneous).

  • Now, from the Recovery Mode select wipe data/factory reset, select the Wipe Cache Partition option, and confirm this wipe task with the Power button.
  • Once the wipe task is done, reboot the smartphone by selecting reboot system now.

 Note: When a wipe task is performed all the data from the smartphone’s internal memory will be erased.
