Lately, we have seen high-end devices appeared on the market, highlighting waterproof feature, but when we are talking about a high-end device we expect not only top features but also a higher price.
Sony is a leading mobile manufacturer on the market, from which we expect that when coming with a new device among its features to find water resistance.
Now, Sony is bringing to a mid-range handset this feature that until now has been exclusive to expensive devices.
Xperia M2 Aqua is the first one that as its, name suggests is waterproof, boasting IP68 certification superior to Xperia Z2; that received IP58 certification. According to Sony Xperia M2 Aqua, is the first smartphone offering the highest level of waterproofing available at an affordable price.
The IP68 rating means that the device has total dust ingress protection and is suitable for permanent submersion in water for at least 1 m.
Xperia M2 Aqua shows the same specs as Xperia M2, i.e., 4.8″ HD display with 540×960 pixels resolution, and Quad Core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1GB RAM and 8GB inbuilt storage expandable via microSD card.
M2 Aqua comes equipped with a rear camera of 8 MP with Sony Exmor RS sensor, autofocus and 1080p video recording support, and in front with a 1.1 MP (VGA) camera.
In terms of connectivity, the device offers 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, NFC, Bluetooth options and is dynamised by a 2300 mAh battery. The M2 Aqua just like the standard M2 will run Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box.
Regarding its availability on the market Sony says that the smartphone will arrive this fall in Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific.
Although Sony has not yet specified a price for the new Xperia M2 Aqua, we assume that it will be somewhere around $ 290.
